By the end of this lesson students should be able to:


1) use the key structure (past simple) correctly .
2) form the key structure ( past simple) correctly
3) respond to the tasks using the Past Simple.
Past Simple
When do we use the Past Simple Tense?

1- Use The Past Simple Tense to talk about


completed actions in the past [ started and finished
in the past]
Examples
I washed my car yesterday.
She ate pizza 2 days ago.
They didn’t visit Paris last year.
2- Use the Past Simple to describe a past habit or
routine [ repeated actions]
Examples
I studied French when I was a child.
Ahmad never came late to school when he was young.
They usually went to the beach for holidays.
3. Use the past simple to list a series of completed
actions that happened one after the other in the
past.

Examples
• I finished work, walked to the beach and found
a nice place to swim.
• She added the flour , poured the milk and then
added the eggs.
How do we form the Past Simple?
Affirmative

The Past Simple is formed using the second


form of the verb.

Subject + v2

I worked hard last night.


Negatives are made with

did not + base form.

I didn’t work hard last night


She didn’t go to Berlin last summer.
Questions are indicated by inverting the
subject and the helping verb did.

Did you work hard yesterday?


Yes, I did
Did she see any dolphins?
No, I didn’t
When you form the past simple you need to pay
attention to the verb because there are two types
Irregular Verbs

You have to memorize the forms of the irregular verbs.
