III. OBJECTIVES:
1) use the simple past tense and past perfect tense correctly;
2) write about actions and events in the past; and
3) do the different tasks related to the simple past tense and past perfect
tense;
SIMPLE PAST
Examples:
Mark placed his bag on top of the table.
Rose cleaned the office after her work.
Yanie recorded the enrolled students.
Victoria and Hilario visited their grandparents yesterday.
Adoracion and Mauro bought grocery items
We use the simple past to list a series of completed actions in the past. These
actions happen 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and so on.
I finished the project, submitted on time, and received a good grade.
Sheila ate a sandwich, drank a glass of juice, and felt satisfied with her
snack.
The teacher discussed the lesson, gave an activity, and checked the
students’ output.
Time markers are words such as yesterday, last night, and a year ago are used
with verbs in the past tense.
Examples: When Flor called him, Nestor had been planting the seeds.

Rey had finished the movie before Susan told him to sleep.
After Estela had finished the dress, Francis sold the item.

Have you read a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow? The poem, The Arrow and
the Song, contains verbs in the past form. Write down the verbs.
