Lettering

Lettering is the Act and Art of writing.


A good lettering and neat linework are very pleasing to look at
on a drawing, and constant practice aimed at producing plain,
clear figures will result in the attainment of a good standard.
Note: Legibility is very important in lettering.
Classes of Lettering
There are two main classes of Lettering:
• Single line lettering
• Double line lettering
Types of lettering
Single line:
• Upright
• Inclined
• Stylised
Double line:
• Roman
• Italics etc.
Method of
Good
Lettering
There are two basic way
of Lettering Alphabets:
• Always print
between two
construction lines.
• It is also an
advantage to pencil
in the letters lightly
with the aid of a
ruler and then line
in by hand.

• Stem-- Vertical
• Bar-- Horizontal
• Arm-- Inclination
• Curve-- Bends
• Bowl-- Cyclic
• Serif-- Beauty or styling
