SMART SENSOR TRASHBIN WITH

AUTOMATIC SANITATION DEVICE;
REVOLUTIONIZING
WASTE MANAGEMENT AND GOOD
SANITATION

INTRODUCTION
In our daily life routines we experiences different
hazards which is caused by micro-organisms (ex. Wound
infections caused by bacteria, allergies caused by viruses and
senses impairment caused by lack of hygiene. Apart from that
most people lacks discipline in properly throwing their garbage
and waste. In regards with these issues the researchers of the
BIT – Electrical student has come up with a proposal of
creating a sensor operated trash bin which automatically
opens and closes and provides sanitary service after throwing.
These bins use sensors (specifically ARDUINO UNO KIT) to
detect when someone is nearby and automatically open the lid
and then sprays sanitizer on the hands of the thrower. This
eliminates the need for people to touch the bin, which can help
to reduce the spread of germs.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The problems will center to the following :

 What are the primary Advantages of using Smart Sensor Trash Bin in waste disposal?

 How reliable and sustainable are smart sensor trash bin?

 Are materials price worth in the effectiveness of its functions?

 Does its automation promote less energy consumptions if it is used in long period of
time?

 How effective is its sanitation component in prevention of germs and transmitted

diseases?

 Based on the findings of this study, a technology guide and manual is developed.
METHODOLOGY
(RESEARCH DESIGN)

The Researchers design a Mix Method

approach that involves Quantitative and
Qualitative research design in data collection
and analysis techniques
METHODOLOGY
(POPULATION / SAMPLE)

 The researchers aim to create an

automated trash bin that is believed to be
the solution in sanitation and waste disposal
issue in the Cebu Technological University
– Danao Campus.
 5 faculty members, 100 students and 5
sanitation staffs are needed by the
researchers to participate.
METHODOLOGY
(INSTRUMENTATION)

 In order to gather insights about the prototype the researchers will

use a quantitative survey instrument specifically a Likert Scale. This
type of survey allows respondents to present their rating in the
effectiveness and reliability of the Smart Sensor. the researchers
would ask the participants to rate the fuctionability of the innovative
trash Bin on a scale of 1-5 ( 1- very poor, 2- poor, 3 – fair , 4 – good ,
5 – Excellent )
 When the Smart Trash Bin is Installed the researchers would
conduct the Qualitative Phase in which a open ended
questionnaires will be distributed which allows the researchers to
analyze their perception and experiences in using the innovative
trash bin.
METHODOLOGY
(DATA COLLECTION)

It is all about the advantage or the good effect of an automated

trash bin on the universities community. Its effectivity, sustainability and
reliability needs to be tested.
Hence, 5 faculty members, 100 students and 5 sanitation staffs
are needed by the researchers to participate. These specific
individuals are entitled to help determine and provide the data that we
need to analyze our automated hygienic trash bin. By the use of
Quantitative and Qualitative instrument namely the likert scale and the
open ended questions, the researchers would be able to interpret and
report findings thus allowing us to come up with improvement in our
prototype model.
Data Gathering would take 3-5 days to be completed
