ENERGY

-is the ability or power to do work

and it can be transformed from one
form to another to become useful.
CLASSIFICATION OF ENERGY
POTENTIAL ENERGY
-is energy that is stored in an object at rest.

EXAMPLE:
1. A ball held above the ground
2. A stretched rubber band in a slingshot
3. A boulder on a hill
KINETIC ENERGY
-energy in motion
EXAMPLE:
1. A stone released by a slingshot
2. A ball rolling on the
ground.
Potential energy can be changed
to kinetic energy in an object
while it is moving. The animals
use kinetic energy to catch and
eat other animals. The animals
change potential energy to
kinetic energy.
FORMS OF ENERGY

MECHANICAL ENERGY- is a form of

energy possessed by a moving object or
energy stored in the object’s structure
due to its position. Mechanical energy
can be either kinetic or potential.
This bicycle has mechanical energy
• An object that possesses mechanical energy can
do work.
• Moving turbines and some machines have
mechanical energy.
• Humans also have stored mechanical energy.
• You do some activities like running, dancing, and
doing simple exercises because your muscles
have mechanical energy
CHEMICAL ENERGY
- is the type of energy stored in molecules. Chemical
reactions can either use or release chemical energy.
EXAMPLE:
1. Chemical energy is present inside the dry cell. The
chemical energy stored in a dry cell is turned into a usable
form when put in appliances. Chemical energy changes to
electrical energy and then to radiant energy when you
connect a wire to a light bulb.
2. Food from plants and animals also contains chemical
energy.
RADIANT OR LIGHT Light energy from the sun is the major source of energy
in a solar system because, without it, Earth would have

ENERGY no life.
