INTRODUCTION Wind Power Plants (WPP)

• Wind Power Plants – Renewable energy,

Pollution free, Sustainable Technology.

• Electric Vehicle (EV) – Run by

Electricity, Pollution Free, Cost
Electric Vehicle (EV)
Effective.

• Main Parts WPP - Wind Turbine,

Generator and other Components Electric Vehicle (EV)

• Main Parts EV – Batteries, Electric

Motor, Converter and other Components
PROBLEM
IDENTIFIED
• Most EV charging happens from
Non Renewable Energy.

• Cost of setting up renewable

power plants is very high.

• Wind Generator cost is around 1/2

of the entire WPP.
OBJECTIVES
To make use of the electric motor
in an electric vehicle as generator
in wind energy conversion system
in the rooftop during it’s rest
period or parking period.

To design a mechanical coupler

which is suitable to connect the
wind turbine and EV motor.
WORKING
• Identify the static (parked) condition of EV.
• Allow user to put the EV in Generation Mode – this will isolate the EV motor terminals from its
EV converter and connects it with the Generator Terminals.
• Wind turbine and EV motor is connected through a mechanical coupler.
• Freewheeling arrangement makes the motor to rotate along with the entire wheel.
• When wind flows the turbine starts rotating and provide mechanical energy to the EV generator
and it converts it into electrical Energy
• The generated energy can be stored in the EV battery or it can be fed to Grid.
• Wind turbine can be placed at rooftop of the building.
• To utilize mechanical rotational energy from wind as input to the motor, Bevel gears are used to
change the direction of shaft rotation.
• During normal motoring action, the power flows from the battery to the motor, whereas during
generating mode, the power flows from the generator (motor) to the battery through a
bidirectional power converter.
