Angle Pairs; Complementary and
Supplementary angles
OBJECTIVES

At the end of this lesson the learners should be able to;

• Identify and illustrate the different kinds of angles pairs;

complementary and supplementary angles.
• Find the complementary and supplementary angles.
• Perform Activities accurately
Complementary angles are two
angles whose measures have a
sum of 90°.
For example,

if angle ADB 45°, then its complement angle BDC would be

45°because 45° + 45° = 90°.

A
B Now class in this figure,
you can see that m∠ADB +
m∠BDC = 90°
D
C
Is this symbol familiar to you ? Where do you see this
symbol already?

This sign a square is

called the foot ,measure of
the angle is 90 degree.
EXAMPLE: 11
x+55° = 90°(Subtract 55 from both sides)
Find the measure of
x+55°- 55°= 90°- 55°
complement angle
whose measure 55° °
x=90°- 55 =35°

x=35°

Let’s just substitute the value of x into this

x 55°
equation

X+55°= 90°

°
35°+ 55 =90°
12
SUPPLEMENTARY ANGLE
- Are two angles whose measure have a sum of 180°.

B Can you see that m ∠ADB+ ∠BDC=180°

135° 135 °+ 45 °=180 °

A D C
What if the one measure is 110 ° and this
is a supplementary angle?

B
m∠ADB + m∠BDC= 180 °
110°
70 °+110 °=180 °
A D C
Lets find the measure of supplement of an
angle whose measure is 156 °.

X+156 ° =180 °

( subtruct 156 °from

both side)

X+156 ° -156 °= 180 °-

Let x = the measure of the complement of an angle. 156 °

180 ° - 156 ° =24

Complete the table by finding the complement and supplement of an angle.

Assignment:
Take a picture on your home where you
can see complementary and
Supplementary angles.

Print the picture, then and measure the

two pairs of angles.
