physical changes in the body

feelings that you experience.

-How is my emotional well-being?
“ I don’t feel anything anymore” (there is a disconnect
between emotions and feelings)
5 AREAS OF PERSONAL
DEVELOPMENT
EMOTIONS- are responses that generate biochemical reactions in
our bodies, changing our physical state. emotions make the heart
beat faster, bring sweat to our pals, and make us breathe more deeply
or in a more shallow way.

FEELINGS- are reactions to emotions and are said to be subjective

and influenced by personal experience, beliefs, and memories.
5 AREAS OF PERSONAL
DEVELOPMENT
3. SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT- is about our inborn
capacity to relate to others, to connect, and to feel
belongingness. As a person grows, there is the desire to be
part of various groups and be recognized. Being
comfortable in relating with other people is essential in
social development.
5 AREAS OF PERSONAL
DEVELOPMENT
4. COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT- refers to a
person’s intellectual abilities as shown in his/her
thoughts, attitudes, beliefs, and values. Thus attitudes
have 3 components namely: AFFECTIVE,
BEHAVIORAL, COGNITIVE
 AFFECTIVE- feelings and emotions
I am disgusted by snakes.

 BEHAVIORAL- the way the attitudes influence the

behavior
Whenever I see snakes, I run as fast as I can.

 COGNITIVE- belief and knowledge about the object

Snakes are dangerous.
5 AREAS OF PERSONAL
DEVELOPMENT
5. SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT-defined as discovering
oneself beyond the ego known as the soul, spirit, or the inner
essence that is often disregarded or taken for granted.
Beliefs determine how people react to life.
Values are subjective judgments that people make about the
importance of certain things or issues.

BEHAVIOR-refers to the
range of action and
mannerism made by
individuals, organisms in
conjunction with their
environment.
Most negative feelings and
behaviors are generated by
negative thoughts
Adolescents are also normally
self-conscious and sensitive
individuals
Making it a habit to assess one’s thoughts,
feelings and behaviors will give you the
opportunity to appraise the truth or
validity of one’s belief, appropriateness of
one’s feelings and emotions and decency
of one’s actions and behaviors.
The people around us do not necessarily
cause our feelings; we are the ones
responsible for them. We have a choice;
we have control over our feelings.
ONESELF/PERSONALITY AS AN
INTERACTION OF MANY FACTORS
A social psychologist, Albert Bandura, defined personality
as the interaction of many factors that affect a person
(thoughts, feelings, and body characteristics); his/her
behavior; and his environment.
He viewed children as active information processors who
quickly learn many new habits through observation.
