Problem No. 2
• A 2-kg ball is held in position by
a horizontal string and a string
that makes an angle of 30° with
the vertical
• Find the tension T in the
horizontal string.

Problem No. 3
• An object is suspended on a frictionless
inclined plane by a rope parallel to the
incline as shown. The angle of the incline
is 25o and the tension in the rope is 5000
N,
• a) Draw the free body diagram
• b) Determine the weight and mass of the
object.

WSin25
W=mg
Solution
• ⨊Fx=T-Wsin25=0
• T-Wsin25=0
• T=Wsin25
• 5000=Wsin25
• W=5000/sin25
• W=11830.01
• m=11830.01/9.8
• m=1207.25kg
Problem 4
• A 15 kg object rests on a table. A cord is attached
to this object and also to a wall which is 60
degrees from the vertical. Another object is hung
from this cord . If the coefficient of static friction
between the 15 kg object and the table is 0.27,
what is the maximum mass that can be hung,
without movement?
• a) Draw the free body diagram
• b) Find the maximum mass that can be hung,
• without movement.

Solution
• Fn=W1=mg= 15*9.8=147
• T1=Fs=µFn=0.27*147 =39.69
• T1=T2 Sin 60 ; 39.69=T2 Sin 60
• T2=39.69/Sin 60 =45.83
• W2=T2 Cos 60
• W2=45.83 Cos 60 =22.92
• m=W2/9.8 =2.34kg
