DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS
CLIMATE AND WEATHER?

presentation title 2
WEATHER

Weather is a daily state of the atmosphere at a place

and time with respect to heat or cold, wetness or
dryness, calm or storm, and clearness or cloudiness;

e.g. snowy, rainy, cloudy.

presentation title 3
CLIMATE

•Climate is the general pattern of weather in a certain area for a long period of
time. It could be tropical climate, arid, or polar climate.

•The
• climate is the long term observations of the
atmospheric conditions at any location like
humidity, temperature, sun’s radiation and wind.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF CLIMATE

Activity 1: IS IT CLIMATE OR IS IT WEATHER?

DIRECTION: THE STUDENT WILL BE DIVIDED INTO FOUR EACH

GROUP WILL BE GIVEN AN ANSWER SHEET WITH A TABLE. IN THE
BOX, A FEW OF THE COMMON ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS
AROUND THE WORLD. IDENTIFY EACH ITEM IF IT IS A CLIMATE OR
A WEATHER BY IDENTIFYING ALSO THE DURATION OF THE
CONDITION. JUST PUT A CHECK ( ) ON THE BOX. ANSWER IN ITEM
1 AND 2 IS ALREADY PROVIDED.

presentation title 16
ACTIVITY 2: COMPARE AND CONTRAST

DIRECTION: The student will write down the

commonalities and differences between climate and weather
through a Venn diagram.

presentation title 17
if there’s a change in climate how does it
affect YOUR daily living ?

FACTORS AFFECTING
THE CLIMATE

presentation title 29
ACTIVITY 1: EXPLAIN ME

DIRECTION: THE STUDENTS WILL BE GROUP INTO 5,

EACH GROUP WILL BE ASSIGNED TO DETERMINE THE
FOLLOWING FACTORS THAT AFFECT THE CLIMATE.

presentation title 30
What is Latitude?
➢It is the angular
distance of a place
north or south of
the Earth’s equator.
presentation title 31
What is Altitude?
➢ Altitude refers to the height
of a place above sea level.
➢ The air temperature
decreases as the altitude
increases. Places with higher
elevations have cold climates.
➢ For every 1,000 m, there is
a drop of 6.5ͦͦ C. At higher
elevations, there is less air.
presentation title 32
What is Distance from the Ocean?
Sea Breeze
➢ The climate of the place is
influenced by the surrounding bodies of
water. Soil absorbs heat faster than water.
At the same time, soil releases heat faster
compared to water.
Land Breeze ➢ Places that are near the oceans have
moderate climate as the body of water
regulates the temperature.
➢ Even as both soil and water absorb
the same amount of heat, the temperature of
presentation title water rises more slowly than the soil. 33
What is Topography?
➢ Topography refers to the surface
features of an area.
➢ One of the topographic features
of an area is a mountain. Mountainous
areas greatly affect the amount of
precipitation in a certain region.
➢ The area in which the wind
blows is called the windward side.
➢ The wind moves down towards
presentation title
the opposite region called the leeward
34

side.
What is Altitude?
➢ Altitude refers to the height
of a place above sea level.
➢ The air temperature
decreases as the altitude
increases. Places with higher
elevations have cold climates.
➢ For every 1,000 m, there is
a drop of 6.5ͦͦ C. At higher
elevations, there is less air.
presentation title 35
What is an ocean currents??
➢ is a continuous, directed
movement of sea water generated
by a number of forces acting
upon the water, including,
Coriolis Effect and gravity.

presentation title 36
presentation title 37
What is global warming?
➢ Global warming is the
increase in the average atmospheric
temperature of the Earth. This is
due to an increase in the
concentration of greenhouse gases
in the atmosphere which trap the
heat energy from the sun that enters
the surface of the Earth.
presentation title 38
ACTIVITY 2: Factors Affecting Climate

DIRECTION: The teacher will show a

situation, and the students within their
group will identify the factor that
affect the climate.

mountain in the country.

ACTIVITY 3:

DIRECTION: The teacher will flash

descriptions, and the students will answer
what type of factor affecting the climate is
being describe. Write it in a ¼ sheet of
paper
presentation title 45
–It is the angular distance of a place north
or south of the Earth’s equator.

presentation title 46
- It is the height above sea level

presentation title 47
-the physical appearance of the
natural features of an area of a
land. E.g. mountains
presentation title 48
-is the location of a certain area
near or far from the ocean. It
can affect climate due to the
property of the water. Water
heats up and cools down slowly
presentation title 49
-is the increase in the average
atmospheric temperature of the
Earth. This is due to an increase in the
concentration of greenhouse gases in
the atmosphere which trap the heat
energy from the sun that enters the
surface of the Earth.
presentation title 50
-is composed of 5 imaginary
horizontal lines, that
determines the climate zones of
each region.
presentation title 51
DIRECTION: WITHIN YOUR
GROUP THINK A SCENARIO
THAT PRESENTS THE
GROUP CHANGES OF CLIMATE,
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES AND
ACTIVITY HOW TO REDUCE THE RISK
AND VULNERABILITY OF
CLIMATE CHANGE THROUGH
A VIDEO PRESENTATION.

rampantly, what will
happen to the earth?
