Recreation has several human aspects that contribute to the overall development and well-being of individuals.
Some of these aspects include:

1. Benefits of activity for brain function

 Physical activity plays an important role in developing the brain and supporting essential mental
functions.

 Exercise leads to improved motor skills (such as hand-eye co-ordination), better thinking and problem-
solving, stronger attention skills and improved learning. Not surprisingly, these all combine to benefit
school performance. Even the simple act of playing outside with friends has been linked to children
performing better on tests and assignments.

Creating a Culture Focused On Wellness

- Any parks and recreation facility should provide a convenient and fun opportunity for the community to
stay fit and in great physical health. Physical activity has shown to have various benefits, including
decreased risk of disease, improved physical and mental health, lower risk of injuries, lower risk of
premature death, and more. It’s no wonder a healthy, active community that enjoys recreation and
physical activity is a happy one.

- With intelligent programming and community outreach, parks and recreation organizations can cultivate a
healthy culture of wellness to better their own local communities.
BENEFITS OF RECREATION PROGRAMMING ON HEALTHCARE.

11
 Recreation activities can contribute to saving healthcare costs in several ways:

1. Preventative healthcare: Engaging in regular recreational activities promotes a healthy lifestyle,

which can prevent the onset of various chronic diseases. Physical activities such as sports, walking, or
swimming can help maintain a healthy weight, lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart disease
and diabetes, and strengthen the immune system. By preventing the development of these conditions,
healthcare costs related to treatment and management can be avoided.

2. Mental health benefits: Recreation activities have been shown to have a positive impact on mental
health. Regular participation in recreational activities can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. By
promoting positive mental well-being, recreation activities contribute to lower healthcare costs
associated with mental health disorders, such as therapy, medication, and hospitalization.

3. Reduced healthcare utilization: Engaging in recreational activities can lead to a decrease in healthcare
utilization, particularly for preventable diseases and injuries. By maintaining a healthy lifestyle, individuals
are less likely to require visits to the doctor, hospitalizations, or medications for preventable conditions. This
can result in significant cost savings for the healthcare system.

4. Improved quality of life: Recreation activities enhance overall well-being and quality of life, leading to
improved self-perceived health and happiness. When individuals have a higher quality of life, they may
experience fewer health problems and require less medical intervention, ultimately reducing healthcare
expenses.

5. Long-term benefits: Recreation activities can have long-term health benefits that extend into older
adulthood. Regular participation in physical activities throughout life can help maintain physical and mental
health, leading to reduced healthcare costs related to age-related illnesses and cognitive decline.

parks at a fee.
 They attract a significant number of attendances, and although most of them charge lower entry
