03
Solve problems involving triangles using
trigonometric ratios
● In triangle trigonometry, also known as
trigonometry of right triangles, deals with the
relationships between the angles and sides of a
right triangle.
● It focuses on the trigonometric functions (sine,
cosine, tangent, cosecant, secant, and
cotangent) and their applications in solving
problems involving right triangles.
PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM
FORMULA
SINE (SOH)
● Sine (sin): The sine of an angle in a right
triangle is the ratio of the length of the side
opposite that angle to the length of the
hypotenuse. (SOH)
COSINE (CAH)
● The cosine of an angle in a right triangle is the
ratio of the length of the side adjacent to that
angle to the length of the hypotenuse.
TANGENT (TOA)
● The tangent of an angle in a right triangle is the
ratio of the length of the side opposite to that
angle to the length of the side adjacent to that
angle
COSECANT
● The cosecant of an angle is the reciprocal of the
sine of that angle
SECANT
● The secant of an angle is the reciprocal of the
cosine of that angle.
COTANGENT
● The cotangent of an angle is the reciprocal of
the tangent of that angle.
EXAMPLE 1
In a right triangle ABC, angle A measures
30∘. The length of side AB is 8 units, and
the length of side BC is 4 units. Calculate
the values of all six trigonometric ratios.
EXAMPLE 1
Solution:
Given:
● Angle A = 30o (hypotenuse = ?)
● Length of side AB = 8 units (Opposite side
to angle A)
● Length of side BC = 4 units (Adjacent side
to angle A)
EXAMPLE 1
So, to find the hypotenuse AC;
EXAMPLE 1
● Length of side AB (Opposite side to angle A)
= 8 units
● Length of side BC (Adjacent side to angle A)
= 4 units
● Length of side AC (Hypotenuse) =
EXAMPLE #2
In a right triangle, if the length of the side opposite
the angle is 8 units and the length of the hypotenuse
is 10 units, find the values of the six trigonometric
ratios for the angle.

Opposite side (O) = 8 units

Hypotenuse (H) = 10 units

(RACE CHALLENGE)
DIRECTION:

I will group you into 4 groups.I will show one problem and
you are going to have a race in answering. If your group are
done answering you will have to chant
“1 2 3 TRIGO! 1 2 3 RATIOS! 1 2 3 TRIGONOMETRIC
RATIOS!’

The first group to get the correct answer will have 3 points in
recitation, 2 for the second, and 1 point for the third and last
place. After answering, the first group to get the correct answer
will choose 2 representatives to explain their answer.
LET’S TRY!
In a right triangle, if the length of the adjacent
side is 5 cm and the length of the hypotenuse is
13 cm, find the values of the six trigonometric
ratios for the angle.
● Find the measure of opposite side
● Give the six trigonometric ratios of the
problem.
SOLVE
Solve and find the six trigonometric ratios.
In a right triangle, if the length of the adjacent side is 6 cm
and the length of the hypotenuse is 12 cm, find the values
of the six trigonometric ratios for the angle.
Given:
Adjacent side (A) = 6 cm
Hypotenuse (H) = 12 cm
ASSIGNMENT
A ladder leans against a wall, forming an angle of 60 degree with the ground. If
the length of the ladder is 10 meters, find the height of the ladder reaching the
wall and the distance from the base of the ladder to the wall.
Given:
Angle =60 degree
Length of the ladder (hypotenuse) H = 10 meters
Find:
● height of the ladder reaching the wall (opposite side to angle θ).
● distance from the base of the ladder to the wall (adjacent side to angle θ)
