CURIOSITY EMPATHY
I am learning to communicate and
connect with others and work together to
solve problems and overcome challenges.
C AR E S I am developing social awareness by
being able to take on the perspective of
others and treat others with empathy.

ADAPTABILITY RESPONSIBILITY SELF-AWARENESS

I am learning to practice self- By learning how to make constructive I am developing a healthy sense of who
management. By leaning how I can choices, analyze actions and find I am and I have a better understanding
control my thoughts and feelings, I can solutions, I am taking responsibility for of my thoughts and feelings.
aim my actions towards a goal. myself and for the world around me.

Properties of Light
❖ Light is a transverse wave.
❖ Light travels in a straight lines.
❖ Light travels very fast with a maximum speed of approximately 300,000,000
m/s.
❖ Light waves can travel through a vacuum (empty space). They do not require
a medium to travel through.

different objects?

Transparent, Translucent, and Opaque

Transparent: Objects that allow

light to pass completely through
them

Translucent: Objects that allow

light to pass partially through them

Opaque: Objects that does not

allow passage of light

Activity
In group discuss and find how we see things?

To explain the transmission of light through different materials.

@ASPSDubai
We see luminous objects as they emit
light. The light falls in our eyes and we
see them. But not all objects are
luminous.

We see non-luminous objects because

light is reflected off them and enters our
eyes after being redirected from the
object. We therefore see the light that
has been reflected but not the light that
has been absorbed.

To explain the Law of Reflection using ray diagram

@ASPSDubai
Luminous and non-luminous
An object that gives out light is described as luminous. How does light from a
luminous object such as a light bulb reach the eye?

Light travels in a straight

line directly into the eye.

An object that does not give out light is non-luminous. How does your
eye see a non-luminous object such as a comb?

Light hits the comb and

some of it is reflected into the
eye.
Absorption, Transmission, and Reflection
• Light may be absorbed, transmitted or reflected.
• Transparent materials let light pass straight through. We say they transmit
light.
• Opaque surfaces can absorb or reflect light.
• White surfaces reflect most of the light that hits them. Black surfaces
absorb light very well and reflect very little. This is why they look so dark.
