PLANT KINGDOM

Presented by: The Three Amazing Gorillas

PLANT KINGDOM
•Plant Kingdom, also known as
Plantae, is incredibly diverse and
includes a wide variety of different
types of plants.
HERE ARE SOME MAJOR TYPES:
1. VASCULAR PLANTS
(Division Tracheophyta):.
These plants have true
roots, stems, and leaves
They are further divided
into plants that produce
seeds and those that
germinate from spores.
HERE ARE SOME MAJOR TYPES:
2. SEED-PRODUCING
VASCULAR PLANTS:
These include Angiosperms
(flowering plants) which are
divided into Monocotyledons
(Monocots) and Dicotyledons
(Dicots), and Gymnosperms
(cone-producing plants) which
include Pinophyta (Conifers),
HERE ARE SOME MAJOR TYPES:
2. SEED-PRODUCING
VASCULAR PLANTS:
Cycadophyta (Cycads),
Ginkgophyta (Ginkgo), and
Gnetophyta
(Gnetophytes0).
HERE ARE SOME MAJOR TYPES:
3. PTERIDOPHYTES:
These are vascular plants that
don’t produce seeds, including
Polypodiosipda (Ferns and
Horsetails) and
Lycopodiophyta (Clubmosses,
Spike mosses, Quillworts).
HERE ARE SOME MAJOR TYPES:
3. NON-VASCULAR
PLANTS (Bryophytes):
These include Division
Anthocerotophyta
(Hornworts), Division
Bryophyta (Mosses), and
Division Marchantiophyta
(Liverworts).
THE PLANT KINGDOM IS VAST AND
DIVERSE, BUT HERE’S A BRIEF
OVERVIEW:
CLASSIFICATIONS/TERMS:
1. Kingdom- Plantae
2. Division/Phylum- Various divisions like Magnoliophyta
(Flowering Plants), Coniferophyta (Conifers), Bryophyta
(mosses), etc.
3. Class- Further divisions within each division, Magnoliopsida
(dicots) and Liliopsida (monocots) in flowering plants.
4. Order- More specific groupings in classes.

OVERVIEW:
CLASSIFICATIONS/TERMS:

5.Family- Groupings of similar genera.

6.Genus- Groupings of closely related species.
7. Species- Individual types of plants.
LET’S NOW MOVE ON
TO SOME EXAMPLES OF
UNCOMMON PLANTS
NEPENTHES
Nepenthes species are perennial
herbaceous plants and frequently
grow in very acidic soil, though
some are epiphytes. All the
species are carnivorous
plants that capture insects and
other prey by means of modified
pitcher-shaped leaves that
function as passive pitfall traps .

MIRABILIS
A peculiar plant
found in the Namib
Desert, known for
its two long, strap-
like leaves.
RAFFLESIA Click icon to add picture
ARNOLDII
Produces the
largest individual
flower on Earth and
is known for its foul
smell.
AMORPHOPHALLS
TITANUM Click icon to add picture

Known as the
corpse flower due
to its strong odor
resembling that
of decaying flesh.
HYDNORA
AFRICANA Click icon to add picture

A parasitic plant
found in southern
Africa with fleshy,
foul-smelling
flowers.
OTHER INFORMATION:
- Plants are autotrophic organisms that typically produce their food
through photosynthesis.
- They play a crucial role in ecosystems, providing oxygen, food, and
habitat for various organisms.
- Some plants have evolved unique adaptations, such as carnivory,
to thrive in challenging environments.
- The study of plants, called botany, encompasses various
disciplines, including plant physiology, ecology, genetics, and
taxonomy.
CHARACTERISTICS OF
THE KINGDOM
PLANTAE
THE PLANT KINGDOM HAS THE FOLLOWING
CHARACTERISTIC FEATURES:
• They are non-motile.
• They make their own food and hence are called autotrophs.
• They reproduce asexually by vegetative propagation or sexually.
• These are multicellular eukaryotes.
• The plant cell contains the outer cell wall and a large central vacuole.
• Plants contain photosynthetic pigments called chlorophyll present in the plastids.
• They have different organelles for anchorage, reproduction, support and
photosynthesis.
