The New Licensing System

Software Licensing Basics
License is a right to use a software product.
Media is used for distributing software product to customer / end user.
Having a media does not equal having a license (right to use a product).

License activation key is used for identifying a license in SOREDEX license server.
Licenses are generated on SOREDEX license server based on orders received from distributors.
One license has one license activation key and activation keys are generated with licenses.

License activation key(s) are distributed together with software media (CD/DVD).
It is important to store the license activation key in a safe place.

Summary
• There are two kinds of licenses, ”Workstation” and
”Network”
• ”Workstation” licenses work only on that PC where they
are activated
• All ”Network” licenses are activated in the PC where the
license server is running
• ”Network licenses are floating = you can install the
software to more PCs than you have licenses but you can’t
use them all at the same time

Trial Period
SCANORA software product includes a fully functional 30 day trial period.

Trial period must be initiated by the user. The trial period is started immediately without any
connection to the SOREDEX license server.

The software reminds the user they are running the software under trial period and informs how
many days are left. After the trial period the software cannot be used.

User can enter valid license activation key after software installation, during the trial period, or
after the trial period.

Workstation License
Workstation license is technically “nodelocked”
– It is installed to one computer and is works only in that computer.
– It can be returned back to license server and activated again on another computer.
– Workstation license can be active in one computer at a time.

Network License
Network (X user) is a floating license
– A local license server is installed to customer network. The installation package is
distributed in software media.
– Network license is activated on the local license server.
– Customers can install any number of client softwares to their computers. Local license
server distributes the licenses over the network and supervises that there are max X
number of client softwares running at a time. X is typically 3, 7, 8 or 20.
– Network license can be checked out from local license server to a workstation and
returned to local license server. This enables using DfW at home or when travelling.
– More than one network license can be activated on the same local license server to
serve more worstations.
– Network license can be returned back to license server and activated again on another
local license server.
– Network license can be activate in one local license server at a time.

Online activation
1. User starts License Manager software and selects Activate License and online activation
process from License Activation Wizard
2. User enters license owner contact information (Name, Company, E-mail, Street address, etc)
3. User enters valid license activation key
4. Software connects to SOREDEX license server and installs valid license to end user computer
5. Software is licensed and functional

Offline Activation Process
Offline activation
1. User starts software and selects offline activation process from License Activation Wizard
2. User enters license owner contact information (Name, Company, E-mail, Street address, etc)
3. User enters valid license activation key
4. Software generates license activation request file and help file
5. User copies the license request file to a computer with internet connection and sends it by
email to licensing@soredex.com
6. License request is automatically processed within 5 to 15 minutes and a response file is sent
back
7. User copies the response file back to the computer where SOREDEX software product was
installed
8. License response file is processed by License Activation Wizard and software is now licensed
and functional

Validity Period
Currently all end user licenses are permanent.

Licenses for distributor testing and sales use are time limited (1 year). Send request for license
keys to your export manager.

SCANORA® Software Product Configurations
SCANORA® DICOM license includes SCANORA® license. The new SCANORA® DICOM license type
is nodelocked.

SCANORA® Single User becomes SCANORA® Starter network package. The Starter network
package includes 1 nodelocked license and 1 floating license (1+1). The nodelocked license is for
capturing workstation and the floating license is for viewing workstation(s).
Add-ons for Starter network package:
– Additional Network license (+1 floating)
– Medium office (+3 floating)
– Large office (+8 floating)
– Extra large office (+20 floating)

FAQ - Activation
Q: Do my current license keys work with the new licensing system?
A: No.

Q: Is activation mandatory?
A: Yes.

Q: What information should I enter to registration page?


A: End user information (the person who owns the license).

Q: Should I use online or offline activation?


A: Online is the recommended activation method if you have Internet connection.

Q: The computer where the software is installed doesn’t have Internet connection.
A: Use offline activation and any nearby computer with Internet connection.

FAQ - Activation
Q: Can someone steal my activation key and use it?
A: Software license can be active only in one computer at a time.

Q: We cannot access the Internet at customer premises at all.


A1: Take your own laptop and a 3G USB stick with you and use the offline activation method.
A2: Trial period is 30 days for workstation software products. SCANORA® SW can connect to network
database in trial mode.

Q: Can I activate the license before I go to install devices and software?


A: No. The license is tied to the computer where the software is installed.

Q: Absolutely no Internet connection (even offline activation is not possible, i.e. dental clinic inside
submarine).
A: SW can be activate on the computer at office and then computer is moved to clinic.

Q: How do I need to prepare?


A: Plan beforehand how you can access the Internet.

Q: We want to run client software on Terminal server.
A: OK. Each sofware instance needs own license.

Q: We want to run software on virtual machine.


A: OK. Each software instance in each virtual machine needs own license.

FAQ – Network license
Q: How fast network license is returned back to local license server after software is closed?
A: If the software is closed without problems the license is returned immediately.

Q: When does the network license return to local license server if software crashes?
A: Start the software again and close it and it will return immediately. If the software is not
started and closed, then the license is returned after 2 hours.

Q: I need 37 network licenses.


A: You can purchase any number of 3,7,8 and 20 user licenses. Scanora workstation licenses can
also be used to connect to network database. DfW Network Client licenses can be ordered in any
quantity.

FAQ – Checking out DfW network license
Q: How do I check-out a network license?
A: Ask the license activation key from your IT admin. Start License Manager in the DfW
workstation which you want to take out from the network and click Check-out. Enter the license
activation key and borrow time in days and press ”Finish”.

Q: How long can I borrow a license?


A: Max 7 days.

Q: Do I need to return the license when I’m back in the network?


A: Returning the license makes it available to other users. If you don’t return the license, it will be
automatically returned after the expiration period.

FAQ – After sales issues
Q: We need to change the customer computer.
A: Return the license back to license server and activate it again.

Q: But we don’t have a network connection.


A: Activation, return, and repair can be done using online and offline.

Q: We had a virus in our computer and now the software does not work.
A: Try the repair operation from License Manager tool.

Q: Computer hard disk was totally destroyed and we cannot return the license.
A: Send the activation key to After Sales.

Q: We don’t have the activation key.


A: Please send the order number or customer email address which was used in software
registration.

FAQ - RMA
Q: We want to return a product (RMA).
A: If the software has been activated, return the license back to license server and then send the
activation key when requesting RMA.

FAQ – Upgrades/Upsells
Q: I want to upgrade my SW (from old licensing system to new).
A: Place an order to Customer Service and send the order number of the software you want to
upgrade.

Q: I want to upgrade my SW (withing new licensing system).


A: Send your activation key to customer service when making the order. Once you receive the
new activation key upgrade the software,and activate the new license in the same computer.
