What is
drafting?
Drafting is the process of
writing down ideas, organizing
them into a sequence, and
providing the reader with a
frame for understanding these
ideas. The end result is a
composition or "first draft" of the
ideas.

are helpful to
writers when
they compose
first draft?

4
What ideas or thoughts will we
include?
How will we organize the material?

How will we introduce, develop and

conclude our first draft?
What will the title of our article be?
Are my thoughts organized?
Do I stick with the same idea
Do I know what order I want to say
things in?
Which ideas do I want to develop?

5
On your prewriting identify the ideas which you must use,
might use, and will not use.

Do not cross anything totally out. You may decide at a later

time to use it.

What ideas should I develop further?

8
Drafting
Writers usually research about their topics at the
prewriting stage and then they accumulate the
entire information at this stage.

Draft is a piece of writing which will probably be

changed and improved not the final copy.

Hook in writing

Question: What is the craziest gift you have received?

Dialogue: “Want to go for a boat ride?” my dad asked on Saturday

afternoon

Strong Emotion: Fear and excitement both found their home in

my heart that day.

Sound word: Crack! Boom! I never knew how loud fireworks were
before my crazy birthday adventure.

Setting: The air was hot, still and stale. I was sprawled across a lawn
chair when I saw my dad walk towards me with boat keys in his hands.

Conclusion
Even without worrying excessively about grammar, putting your ideas
in sentence form will not always be easy. Ideas can be complex and
difficult to express, and even native English speakers must struggle
sometimes to say (or even know!) exactly what they mean, so don't
expect yourself to be able to do it the first time.

Let yourself write freely and feel the satisfaction of 1) getting a draft
done, and then 2) crafting it to say what you want to say the way you
want say it.
