DRAFTING
TECHNICAL
01 DRAFTING

Technical drawing, also

known as drafting, is a detailed
graphic rendition of how something
functions or how it is built.
Technical drawings are made at a
precise scale and include elements
that make them unambiguous.
TECHNICAL
01 DRAFTING

In technical drawing, the main goal

is precision, while artistic drawings
aim to provide aesthetical pleasure.

• TWO-DIMENSIONAL
R E P R E S E N TAT I O N D R AW I N G
Two dimensional representation is
generally a flat a flattened image
which has no depth or lighting and is
generally drawn or painted onto a flat
surface. In the interior design
industry, floor plans, elevations,
swatches, textiles are excellent
examples of 2D presentation, as well
as, any type of text-based
presentations.

Scale refers to the relative size of
an element in a design when
compared to another element. It is
responsible for creating a visual
hierarchy among elements of your
creation. Scale drawings are used to
illustrate items that it is not useful
or convenient to draw at their actual
size. In the construction industry, a
range of scales are generally used
depending on the nature of the
drawing. For example: A location
plan at 1:100.

Annotation are basically notes or
other types of explanatory objects
(or symbols) that are commonly used
to add information to a drawing.
Some examples of annotations are
notes and labels, dimensions,
hatches, tables, blocks, and callouts.
Annotations are used to indicate
comments and notes on drawings
and diagrams in the process of their
checking and revision, sometimes
called “red-lining”.

• FLOOR PLANS

Floor plans are scale drawings that

show the relationship between
rooms, spaces and physical features
viewed from above. They provide a
way to visualize how people will
move through the space. Floor plans
allow buyers and renters to
understand the essence of the
property, the spaces, how the spaces
interact, outlooks, and flow. The
most important aspect of a floor plan
is its accurate scale.

• E L E VA T I O N S
An elevation is a view from
the side of an object, when
drawing interior elevations,
this would represent one of
the walls. This would
include any windows or
doors as well as any built-in
furniture that is in direct
contact with the wall. This
is a section view.

• SECTIONS
The term section
typically describes a cut
through the body of a
building, perpendicular to
the horizon line. A section
drawing is one that shows
a vertical cut transecting,
typically along a primary
axis, an object or building

Symbols in architectural
drawings indicate what
and where things need to
be built and installed.For
example, by identifying
the shape of a door
symbol, we can easily
understand its type (e.g.
single-hinged, double-
swing, or sliding door).

Presentation Techniques
(Interior design presentation)
are a remarkable way of
delivering projects in multiple
depths of detail, from floor
plans and materials boards to
3D drawings and renderings.
Interior design presentations
can make or break a project.

• THREE-DIMENSIONAL
R E P R E S E N TAT I O N D R AW I N G
Three-dimensional drawing
is defined as art with all the
dimensions of height, width,
and depth. Unlike 2D drawing,
it occupies greater physical
space and can be viewed and
interpreted from all sides and
angles.

• THREE-DIMENSIONAL
R E P R E S E N TAT I O N D R AW I N G
This is also the process of
creating 3D drawings,
environments, and assets that
represent various parts of
building interiors, from structures
(walls, windows, rooms, etc.) to
interior objects (furniture,
accessories, décor, etc.) and other
decorative elements.

• FREEHAND SKETCHING

A documenting process of
the optical images, and helps
the architects to gain
understanding, insight, and
inspiration to express their
observations, thoughts and
feelings.
02 P R E S E N TAT I O N
TECHNIQUES
• FREEHAND SKETCHING
In interior sketching, it is
highly important to understand
the laws of perspective and train
your eye to judge scale and
proportion. It is always good to
be able to execute your drawings
within different time frames
because sometimes you will need
to draw your idea quickly in front
of your customer.
02 P R E S E N TAT I O N
TECHNIQUES
• FREEHAND SKETCHING
As an interior designer,
you should have an eye for
beauty, a feeling for
harmonious colors, and a
perfect palette. And, as in
other types of sketching, you
should be able to render a
variety of materials such as
fabric, wood, stone, and glass.

TECHNIQUES
• COLOR RENDERING TECHNIQUES

Color rendering refers to

how accurately an artificial
light source reveals the
color of an object
compared to how that color
appears when illuminated
by a natural light source.
02 P R E S E N TAT I O N
TECHNIQUES
• COLOR RENDERING TECHNIQUES
Interior design
renderings show you the
position of the structural
components, furniture,
and appliances in your
proposed space. Interior
designers commission
photorealistic renderings
to show clients what the
end product will look like.

• SCALED MODEL MAKING
Interior scale model-making is
the process of creating a physical
representation of an upcoming
interior design project. In interior
scale modeling, the architect
designs a three-dimensional
miniature building to display
parts of interior space, including
walls, floors, doors, windows,
furniture, and ceiling.

TECHNIQUES
• SCALED MODEL MAKING
Scale model making is
creating interior models on the
basis of the design concept, 3D
architectural rendering, sketches,
or other digital drawings. A high-
quality interior model may
feature an appropriate space
layout, befitting color scheme,
lighting, and well-arranged
furniture to mimic the life scenes.

BOARDS
MOOD BOARDS AND
03 SAMPLE BOARDS

• Mood Board - an assemblage of

colors, textures, prints, materials,
or other design elements that make
up a project's identity.

• Color and Material Boards - these

are for color inspiration and often
include an inspiration piece with a
few sample colors so you can see
how they look together.
