5 Protein synthesis
By: Jack
DNA makes RNA and RNA makes protein
• DNA is code for protein
• RNA describe as messenger RNA
• Transcription-DNA makes and
mRNA which is a copy of one strand
of the DNA
• Translation- Process by which a se-
quence of bases in mRNA is con-
verted into amino acid
Transcription
• Transcription- DNA
makes and mRNA
which is a copy of one
strand of the DNA
• Take place in the nu-
cleus
• RNA polymerase- the
enzyme responsible
for transcription
• Each set of three
bases code for one
amino acid
Translation
• After leaving the nucleus
the mRNA molecule attaches to a
ribosome
• tRNA molecules have a triplet of
unpaired bases at one
end (known as the anticodon)
and a region where a
specific amino acid can attach at
the other
• The tRNA molecules bind with
their specific amino acids and
bring them to the mRNA mole-
cule on the ribosome
Translation
• The triplet of bases on each tRNA
molecule pairs with a comple-
mentary triplet on the mRNA
molecule
• This process continues until
a ‘stop’ codon on the mRNA mol-
ecule is reached
