INTRODUCTION
• Drone powered pest control is to help famers grow the crops along with the safety
of their health.
• Even though agriculture is the major sector of our economy, but still it is far short
of western countries when it comes to adapting latest technologies for better farm
output. In order to keep with the challenges, there is need to find ways to improve
our current farming practices and processes with improved technologies.
• The labor shortage and high labor cost, crop losses due to pests, poor availability of
the funds and agricultural inputs, wastage of inputs, terrible support price structure
these are all the problems which are limit the access for good quality of food for the
people.
• This technology helps the farmers to reduce labour cost and to overcome loss of
food and provide good quality by ensuring the proper care required. The main
intention is to compare amongst all the available technologies, accessibility,
convenience and affordable prices.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Agricultural ecosystems face a persistent threat from pest infestations that compromise
crop yields and quality. Up to the date, the pesticides are spraying by the conventional
methods by using the handpumps on the back or by manually by throwing using hands.

The widespread use of pesticides raises concerns about ecological consequences,

human health, and the development of pesticide-resistant pests. Sometimes it’s not
possible to reach each and every crop sapling for being pesticide. There is a continuous
contact between humans and pesticides which is a dangerous thing for health and it’s
time consuming.

Our project is designed and built to overcome this problem and to develop a
quadcopter capable of spraying pesticides in agricultural lands.

9
OBJECTIVES

1. To design and develop a flight-capable light weight remote operated

quadcopter.

2. To integrate the assembled quadcopter with a spraying mechanism.

3. To develop a cost-effective solution in order to support a payload carrying

capacity of 500 grams using a remote-controlled quadcopter.

10
METHODOLOGY
A description of the quad copter's design methodology follows. The below fig 1 is the block diagram of the working
process of Drone Powered Pest Control.

Fig 1: Block Diagram of Drone Powered Pest Control

11
The transmitter and receiver, both are mounted on the quad copter, and the receiver receives the
signals sent by the transmitter. An accelerometer and a gyroscope sensor are used to process the
signal after it is received by the receiver and passed to the flight controller. After being processed,
the signal is sent to the electronic speed controller, which makes a switch and allows a specific
amount of current to flow to the motor, depending on what signal it receives. The mechanical
linkage between the motors and propellers generates thrust when they rotate.

Coming to the spraying mechanism, water is pumped using the current provided by the Li-Po 3S
quad copter battery and pressurized in the storage tank with the help of the water pump. Pressure
causes the liquid inside the pipeline to flow through the pipeline and enter the nozzle, where it gets
sprayed. It is possible to vary the input current of the transmitter, controlling the flow rate of the
pump. Therefore, controlling the intensity of the stream.

HARDWARE
REQUIREMENTS
1.Frame :The frame plays an important role in the
drone for supporting all other components . It is
important to take the weight of the frame in
consideration because if weight is high then there can
be difficulties in the lifting of the drone as shown in fig
3.1. Fig 3.1: DJI F450 Quad Copter Frame

2. Motors : Brushless DC Motors do not possess

brushes, they have a permanent magnet . Its movements
can be controlled via an electronic controller and speed
feedback mechanism as shown in fig 3.2.
Fig 3.2: BLDC Motors
3. Propeller : As per the frame size and motor rating
the propeller should be selected. In this current scenario
our frame size is about 480 mm as shown in fig 3.3.

Fig 3.3: Propellers

13
4. ESC : It stands for the electronic speed controller and it is
used to vary the servo motor speed , its direction and also for
applying the brakes as shown in fig 3.4.
Fig 3.4: ESC
5. Flight controller :The flight controller helps to drive the
drone by taking stability, speed, gyro, acceleration in
consideration. The flight controller should be easier to mount
and handled as shown in fig 3.5.
Fig 3.5: KK 2.1.5 Flight Controller
6. Battery :For our application as per the motor rating we are
using 6500 mAh battery . cause this battery can give us a better
flight time to fulfil the work proposed as shown in fig 3.6.

Fig 3.6: Li-Po Battery

14
7. Radio controller :Firstly The transmitter should be
calibrated with the flight controller using the receiver.
After the calibration the transmitter is linked with the
drone , as per command of the transmitter the drone will
works using instrument as shown in fig 3.7.
Fig 3.7: Radio Controller

8. Nozzle : As shown in fig 3.8, nozzle is a device with

varying cross section area to control the flow of the fluid,
direction, shape . In the nozzle the velocity of fluid
increase due to pressure energy.
Fig 3.8: Nozzle
9. Submersible pump : As per required flow velocity the
9V dc power supplied water submersible pump is used
for spraying the pesticide through the nozzle as shown in
fig 3.9.
