 Thevenin’s
Theroem – states
that “Anylinear
circuit containing
several voltages
and resistances
can be replaced
by just a Single
Voltage in series
with a Single
Resistor.”
 Find the thevenin or equivalent
resistance Rth across the terminals,
by turning off all the independent
𝑉 𝑇h
𝐼 𝐿=
source. Shorting voltage source 𝑅𝑇h + 𝑅 𝐿 ;
and opening current source.

 Find the thevenin or open-circuit

voltage Vth across the terminals by
using any circuit analysis
𝑅𝐿
techniques you like. 𝑉 𝐿= 𝑅 𝐿 𝐼 𝐿= 𝑉 𝑇𝐻
𝑅 𝑇h + 𝑅 𝐿
 Connect Rth in series with the load
(say RL) across Vth and apply the
formula below to solve for volage
or current of the load.

Thevenin
equivalent
circuit at
terminals a-b of
the circuit:
SEATWORK:
In the circuit shown
in the figure, If the
source voltage is =
100∠53.13 V, then
the Thevenin’s
equivalent voltage
in volts as seen by
the load is…
