MULTIMODAL

APPROACH
What is a multimodal text?
1.A multimodal text can be paper
2.A multimodal text can be digital
3.A multimodal text can be live
4.A multimodal text can be transmedia
Transmedia
-more than just multiple media platforms; it is
about the logical relations between these
media extensions which seek to add
something to the story as it moves from one
medium to another, not just adaptation or
retelling.
The multimodal text and the different media possibilities :

Print-based multimodal texts

include comics, picture storybooks, graphic novels; and
posters, newspapers and brochures.

Digital multimodal texts

include slide presentations, animation, book trailers, digital
storytelling, live-action filmmaking, music videos, ‘born
digital’ storytelling, and various web texts and social media.
A text may be defined as multimodal when it combines two or more semiotic systems.

1. Linguistic: vocabulary, structure, grammar of oral/written

language
2. Visual: color, vectors and viewpoint in still and moving
images
3. Audio: volume, pitch and rhythm of music and sound effects
4. Gestural: movement, facial expression and body language

5. Spatial: proximity, direction, position of layout, organization

of objects in space.
