MODIFIED DIET
Definition of Modified Diet

A modified diet is any diet altered to include or exclude certain components, such as calories, fat,
vitamins and minerals, according to “Nutrition Essentials for Nursing Practice” by Susan G. Dudek. Diets
are typically modified for therapeutic reasons, including treatment of high blood pressure, low body
weight or vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Talk to your physician about diet modifications that may
help your condition, and follow up with a nutritionist to help you make the best dietary choices

Definition of Diabetic Diet

Definition of diabetic diet is a healthy eating plan to maintain good blood glucose levels. A diabetes diet simply
means eating the healthiest foods in moderate amounts and sticking to regular mealtimes. A diabetes diet is a
healthy-eating plan that's naturally rich in nutrients and low in fat and calories. Key elements are fruits, vegetables
and whole grains.

Characteristics of Diabetic Diet


Diet contains exchanged lists:

• Goods are grouped according to type, nutrients, and calories


• Patients are allowed a certain number of items from each exchange list according to individual needs
• Food Exchange List (FEL) is a user-friendly tool which was developed to help individuals to aid healthy eating habits and follow a
specific diet plan. This may be a helpful supplementary strategy when helping patients prevent or manage non-communicable diseases
that are affected by diet especially those with diabetes.

The nutrition need for Diabetes


Eating the right foods for diabetes means eating a variety of healthy foods from all the food groups:

• Fruits and vegetables


• Whole grains, such as whole wheat, brown rice, barley, quinoa, and oats
• Proteins, such as lean meats, chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, nuts, beans, lentils, and tofu
• Nonfat or low-fat dairy, such as milk, yogurt, and cheese

What should Diabetes patient must avoid


The high-carb foods and drinks you should limit include:

• Sugary foods, such as candy, cookies, cake, ice cream, sweetened cereals, and canned fruits with added sugar
• Drinks with added sugars, such as juice, regular soda, and regular sports or energy drinks
• White rice, tortillas, breads and pasta - especially those made with white flour

Characteristics of Low Protein Diet

• Used for patients with certain kidney diseases and for certain allergic
conditions
• Regular diet with limited or decreased protein rich foods

Characteristics of Low-Fat Diet

• Used for patients with gallbladder and liver disease, obesity, and certain heart diseases
• Avoid cream, whole milk, cheese, fats, fatty meats, rich desserts, chocolate, fried foods,
salad dressings, nuts and coconuts

How to prepare

1. Satukan bahan-bahan B. Koyakkan roti dan masukkan ke dalam bahan B. Biarkan terendam dan
meresap seketika.

2. Masukkan separuh kismis dan juga mentega cair .Gaul sebati. Kemudian tuang ke dalam loyang/bekas
yang telah digris dengan sedikit butter. Taburkan baki kismis diatas adunan.

3. Bakar pada suhu 180C selama 30 minit atau sehingga masak.

4. Untuk membuat kuah@sos kastad, campurkan semua bahan ke dalam periuk dan kacau hingga agak
pekat mengikut kepekatan ikut selera masing-masing.

5. Tuang ke atas puding roti tadi. Jika suka sejuk, masukkan peti sejuk dahulu sebelum dipotong dan
dituang sos kastad.
