Unity of Ummah

Unity is one of the most important teachings

of Islam
‫ِإَّنَم ا اْلُم ْؤ ِم ُنوَن ِإْخ َو ٌة‬
“The believers are but a single brotherhood.”
The criteria for entering into muslim umma is
only one and that is iman.
Islam acknowledges two kinds of
brotherhoods :-
Brotherhood in faith
Brotherhood in blood
To unite people is a great virtue
To disunite people is a great sin.
• “All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has
no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab
has any superiority over an Arab; also a white
has no superiority over black nor a black has
any superiority over white except by piety and
good action. Learn that every Muslim is a
brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims
constitute one brotherhood.” Last sermon of the
Holy Prophet (s.a.w.)
• Origin is the same.
• No superiority on the basis of colour.
• No superiority on the basis of race.
• Brother hood among Muslim.
• "A Muslim is the brother of another
Muslim. He does not oppress him, nor
does he leave him at the mercy of others."
(Sahih Muslim Book 032, Number 6219)

• "None of you will have faith till he wishes

for his (Muslim) brother what he likes for
himself." (Sahih Al-Bukhari Volume 1,
Book 2, Number 12)
O, Mankind! We have created you from a male
and a female, and made you into nations and
tribes that you may know one another. Verily,
the most honorable of you with Allah is the one
who has piety.” (49:13)
[3:64] Say: O followers of the Book! come to an
equitable proposition between us and you that
we shall not serve any but Allah and (that) we
shall not associate aught with Him,
• And hold fast, all of you together to the rope of
Allah, and be not divided among yourselves.”
(3:103)
• “The Muslims are like a body in love, kindness,
and affection; if one limb aches, the whole body
aches.”
UNITING FORCES
 The Pillars of Islam All are group activities to
Assist the believers, through group actions, to
attain unity.
 Iman there is no god but Allah and Muhammad
is the messenger of God. Membership of the
muslim community
 Borderless community, a community not
bound by geographic, national, ethnic and racial
consideration .
LAWFUL EARNING
• Lawful earning means to earn our living by
legitimate and lawful means .
• Lawful things are known as halal and the
things, which are not lawful, are known as
haram.
• Lawful things are obligatory on every
muslim.
ISLAMIC PRINCIPLES ON LAWFUL EARNING
• The basic asl of objects (e.g. food & drink) as well
human actions and behavior is the permissibility. .

• Prohibition and making lawful is the domain of the

Creator (Allah).
• The prophet (PBUH) said:
“The halaal is that which Allah (SWT) has made lawful in
his book and the haraam is that which he has forbidden;
and that concerning which he is silent, He (SWT) has
permitted as favor for you”

• It is sufficient to know what is haraam since what is not

included in the realm of haraam, is lawful.
• Anything conducive to haraam is haraam.
• Good intentions do not make the haraam as
halal.
• What is doubtful is to be avoided.
• Islamic obligation to work and earn a living, the
Prophet (PBUH) said: “Charity is halaal neither
for rich nor for able-bodied”.
• It is haraam to beg from others without dire
necessity: “he who begs without need is like a
person who holds a burning coal in his hands”.
• Work is dignified in Islam, : “it is better that a
person should take a rope and bring a bundle of
wood on his back to sell so that Allah may
preserve his honor, than he should beg from
people, whether they give to him or refuse him.”
• A Muslim can earn his livelihood by any work or
trade or industry or via a profession.

• The sphere of the prohibited is very small as

compared to Halal.

• What is haraam is prohibited for everyone.

• Necessity dictates exceptions.

• What is halaal is sufficient, and required what is

haraam is superfluous (extra )

• Prohibition is due to impurity or harmfulness.

LAWFUL EARNING
 “Never has anyone eaten a better food that what he has procured
through his manual work".

 Dawood (alaihi sallam), The Messenger of Allah, ate only from the
earnings from his manual work.

 Some of the salaf said: “Some of the sins are not expiated but
through seeking lawful provisions

 From the narrations reported about issa (alaihi salatu wa sallam),

that he saw a man and said: "what do you do?" he said: “I am
worshiping,” he said: “Who is providing for you?” he said: “My
brother" he said: “Where is your brother?” He said: “In the field" he
said: “Your brother is more of a worshiper to allah than you".

 “He travels for long periods, his hair tousled, his feet dusty, raising
his hands in supplications to the heavens saying, my lord, my lord,
but he eats from unlawful earnings, He dresses from unlawful
earnings, and he lives by unlawful earnings. He will never be
answered".
• Clean source of income is of paramount importance in Islam.

“O you people! indeed, Allah is good and does not accept except good.
Allah has also commanded the believers with which he has commanded the
prophets.”

“O (you) messengers! eat of the taiyibat [all kinds of halal (legal) foods which
Allah has made legal (meat of slaughtered eatable animals, milk produts,
fats, vegitables, fruits, etc.)], and do righteous deeds.” (surah al mu’minun
23:51)

“O you who believe (in oneness of allah – islamic monotheism)! eat of the
lawful things that we have provided you with, and be grateful to Allah, If it is
indeed he whom you worship.” (surah al baqarah 2:172)

 Good things in the knowledge of Allah are lawful for the people and bad
unlawful.

“He allows them as lawful at-taiyibat [(i.e. all good and lawful) as regards
things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.] and prohibits them as unlawful
al-khabaith (i.e. all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs,
persons, foods, etc.).” (surah al a’raaf 7:157)
• Seeking for pure earnings is compulsory
“Whoever eats what is pure, acts in accordance with
the sunnah and from whose evil people are save, will
enter paradise.”
 Unlawful earning is devoid of barakah (blessing),
satisfaction and rest of mind.
“No, by Allah! what I fear for you people is what Allah
is going to bring out for you of the beauties of this
world – until he said: ‘whover takes a wealth rightfully,
it will be blessed for him and whoever takes it
unlawfully his example is like someone who eats but is
never satisfied.” (Al Bukhari and Muslim)
 Among the most dangerous things is fraud and deceit
in all its forms and shapes.
“Whoever deceives us is not of us.” (muslim)
 Judge ‘s decision does not make unlawful lawful

“I am only a human being. You may bring your

disputes to me for settlement while one of you is likely
to be more intelligent in proofing his case than others
thereby causing me to rule in his favor based on the
argument that I hear. so, whoever I rule in his favor
over rights belonging to his brother, I only cut a portion
of hellfire for him.” (al bukhari and muslim)

 Swearing falsely in order to snatch another muslims

property:

“If it is that he has sweared falsely in order to get

another person’s property in a wrongful way, Allah will
turn away from him (on the Day of Judgement).”
(Muslim)
