Preposition
A preposition is a word that shows the relationship of
a noun or pronoun to some other word in the
sentence. The relationships include direction, place,
time, cause, manner and amount.
A preposition always goes with a noun or pronoun
which is called the object of the preposition. The
preposition is almost always before the noun or
pronoun. The preposition and the object of the
preposition together are called a prepositional phrase.
Examples
 Examples:
 I walked to the car. (preposition – to, object of the
proposition – car, prepositional phrase – to the car)
 I walked around the car. (preposition – around, object of
the proposition – car, prepositional phrase – around the
car)
 The pen is on the table. (preposition – on, object of the

Prepositions Of Time
 The prepositions of time are those which indicate time. A few of the most
commonly used examples for this type are before, after, during, in, on, etc.
 Pakistan gained independence on 14th August 1947.
 Try to come home before it starts raining.
 During World War I, many civilians lost their lives
 I am getting married in January.
 This was done in the Mughal era.
 Would you like to join me for the party on Friday?
 He is busy at the moment.

 A preposition of place is a preposition which is used to refer to a place where
something or someone is located

Preposition Of Manner
 Prepositions of Manner is all about how a certain thing happened or is
done. Sometimes even referred to as Prepositions of Method, these
include words like on, by, with, like, etc.
Examples:
 He will die by the sword. (the sword will be the manner of his death)
 He faces danger with courage. (he is courageous when faced with
danger)
 She left the room in tears. (she was crying when she left the room)
 They traveled on foot. (they walked)
 I have worked as a teacher and counselor. (in the capacity of
a teacher and counselor)
