When we do that, we get the sense that we are exactly where we are supposed to be, doing exactly what we are supposed to be doing. Rhonda Abbott Blevins serves as associate pastor at the Tellico Village Community Church in Loudon, Tennessee, an ecumenical congregation in the center of a planned retirement community. Previously she served as the Associate Coordinator for Missions with the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship and as a campus minister at the University of Georgia. Rhonda is pursuing a doctor of ministry degree from the McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University. She is married to Terry and they have a five-year-old son, Jake.

Spring Gathering Breakouts

Experience Morocco Come experience Morocco! Kentucky Baptist Fellowship and nine partnering congregations have made an investment to walk with our Christian brothers and sisters in the Protestant Church in Morocco (Eglise Evangelique au Maroc EEAM), and this experiential opportunity will give you a flavor of their culture. On Friday evening and Saturday morning, KBF will transform part of Third Baptist into a Moroccan medina where culture and shopping collide. Additionally the frontier/woods in Oujda will be brought to life where sub-Saharan African refugees struggle everyday. The Morocco experience is a unique expression as you will be encouraged to visit at your own pace, but it is also a chance to witness the plight and recognize the need of our migrant and refugee brothers and sisters from sub-Saharan African countries struggling to survive in Morocco. Come to Owensboro and visit Morocco! Engagement in Missions: Understanding and Utilizing KBFs Missions Asset Map The KBF Missions Asset Map, launched in August 2012, is a tool that helps us tell the KBF narrative more succinctly. The asset map highlights the cooperative impact of the KBF. A panel discussion will be led by KBF partners who helped to shape the Missions Asset Map and give insight for how your congregation may use it in the future. Come and learn how our local, state and global mission partnerships are engaging us all for the cause of Christ. Sharing Your Story: With Whom in Scripture Do You Share Your Story? Led by Kentucky Baptist Women In Ministry, this interactive breakout will ask participants to choose characters from scripture they most identify with in their life. The group will work together to reflect on how scripture and life intersect. The breakout is part of a larger effort in partnership between KYBWIM and the women of the EEAM in Morocco. A Bible study based on personal experiences with scripture will be developed in Kentucky and Morocco for us during the October partnership KBF-Morocco experience. Engagement with CBF Field Personnel Through Mission Communities Engage with Gods Heart and Your Passion alongside CBF Field Personnel and others in a Mission Community. Learn about the eight CBF Mission Communities and how you can live out your passion and touch others with the heart of God in sustainable, holistic missions. The Mission Communities are: Poverty and Transformation, Internationals, Healthcare Ministries, Economic Development, Church Planting and Faith Sharing, Disaster Response, Justice and Peacemaking and Education. Intentionality and Worship Several worship leaders will discuss ideas and resources for planning worship with intentionality. Moving beyond worship planning that focuses on style and form, this workshop will center on ideas and resources that are concerned with substance, movement and flow. Worship as Mission A panel discussion about assessing the needs of your community and planning worship accordingly. Panelists from local congregations will speak on the challenges of providing sacred space (physical, emotional, and spiritual) for worship for the entire community. Missions In The Community: Unexpected Experiences Local missions is at that heart of how our KBF congregations engage the world. Come listen to this panel discussion of congregational leaders from Western Kentucky talk about their missional partnerships and the unexpected experiences they create. Festival of Preachers As we look toward the 21st century in the church, come hear the voice of our next generation of preachers. This session will feature sermons and/or testimonies from young preachers as well as a conversation with founder and president of the Academy of Preaches, Dr. Dwight Moody, about what the Academy has accomplished and where it is headed in the future.

Leadership Workshop
Friday, April 26; 1:30 to 4:00 PM For congregational leaders--laity and clergy Natural Paths: Laying Down our Ministerial Machetes and Methods, Led by Jim Dant, writer, conference speaker, church consultant and partner at Faithlab. Jim will help those who attend take a look at the Philippian church and the leadership style that allowed that church to be planted and experience growth. Participants will consider the natural paths that church life/congregations could take IF leaders relinquished the need to tightly control methods and outcomes. Such leaders could help congregations have the freedom to BE who they are. The workshop will have two sessions with a break: Session One: Memory Lane (Philippians 1 & 2) Session Two: The HOV Lane (Philippians 3 & 4) Those who pre-register for this workshop will receive two books written by Jim Dant: How Does the Church Decide and One Pastor, Twelve Steps: Preaching My Way Through the Valley of the Shadow of Addiction. $15 per person ($10 if pre-registered by April 15), $25 per church gor groups of three or more. KBF Missions Offering at Spring Gathering

Kentucky Baptist Fellowship will receive two offerings this year in Owensboro for our mission partnerships. A monetary offering will be received during both worship services which will benefit KBFs Mountain Hope engagement (KBFs rural poverty initiatives in McCreary, Owsley and Powell Counties). NEW THIS YEAR Kentucky Baptist Fellowship will receive a tangible offering of school supplies! KBF asks all participants to bring any of the items listed to Owensboro. Third Baptist will use the donated items for their ongoing ministry to The Colony Mobile Home Park, a low income neighborhood the church began a partnership with seven months ago. SCHOOL SUPPLIES NEEDED: notebook paper, pencils, pens, backpacks, school glue, kleenex, rulers, calculators, markers (washable), crayons, and scissors.

2013 KBF/EEAM Partnership Experience:

Fellowship Without Borders: Caravan for Women Kentucky Baptist Fellowship, Kentucky Baptist Women In Ministry, and The Eglise Evangelique au Maroc will partner together in October to lead the first multicultural womens experience for Kentuckians and Africans in Morocco. Lead by Karen Thomas Smith and Becky Caswell-Speight, this trip seeks to build relationships between women of the EEAM and women of the KYBWIM. The group from Kentucky will travel (caravan) across the country of Morocco with women of the EEAM developing partnership, discovering ways to work together, and encouraging each other in their own cultures and contexts. Highlights for the trip include worship in Casablanca, Bible study in Fez, dialog with Moroccan Muslims, and worship with migrants/refugees in Rabat. Malachi and Shawna Barnett are the KBF Extreme Build home recipients for 2013. Chosen in partnership by KBF, Kentucky Investment Housing Corporation, and McCreary County Community Housing Development Corporation, the Barnetts are excited about becoming new homeowners this June. As our eighth Extreme Build family, the Barnetts represent the youngest family we have partnered with in McCreary County. Malachi and Shawna met and fell in love in high school and married one another at 17 and 16 years of age, respectively. A short while later they welcomed their son Easton to the family. Shawna enrolled in the nursing program at the University of the Cumberlands where she attended until the night of a car accident in 2011. After a long night of being up tending to Easton while sick, she made her way from Whitley City toward Williamsburg for school. Shawna fell asleep while driving, wrecking her car into a tree. She broke five major bones and was hospitalized for more than two weeks. Despite this setback, the Barnetts remained determined to care for one another and overcome this huge physical and financial burden. Most young couples are not mature enough to tackle such tremendous responsibilities so quickly and so early in life, yet Malachi and Shawna have held onto their love for each other and their son. Malachi works as often as he can as a permanent parttime employee at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Whitley City (alongside 2007 Extreme Build home recipient Richard Garland). Both he and Shawna go to school in Whitley City at Somerset Community College. The Barnetts are excited about Extreme Build. A new home will allow them to continue on their path as a successful family. Come to McCreary County June 9-15 and help the Barnett family be part of the next Miracle of Partnerships.
