ierantoni’s Place

As we enter that time of year where sickness becomes more common, I wanted to
take a minute or two to talk about staying healthy.

Keeping our hands clean – We will continue to be vigilant with students about
washing their hands throughout the day. We also have hand sanitizer in each
classroom to keep their digits as germ free as possible. Coughing and sneezing
into their arm rather than their hands is also encouraged.

Recess - Even this week, there are students who are coming to school not prepared
to be outside for 10-15 minutes at a time. The fresh air is a good release and an
opportunity for students to get energized and ready for the rest of the day. Please
encourage your children to come prepared with warm clothing everyday for recess
and PE. They will most likely be going outside.

Finally, we need to focus on those who are sick, or getting sick. We will send
students home if they exhibit the following symptoms:
• Fever over 100 degrees
• Vomiting

Together, I hope that we can help each other stay healthy and make the most of the
rest of the school year.

Did you know that Etna Elementary has adopted Tribes as our
school’s framework for addressing the “care” component of
our mission statement? Each Tuesday all staff and students in
the school meet for 30 minutes in their small group, or tribe.
They do activities
to build a more
inclusive, caring school community. When you come into Etna you’ll notice
posters about the Tribes Learning Agreements. These are agreements all
students and staff agree to follow when we interact with others.
The Learning Agreements are:
• Attentive Listening
• Mutual Respect
• Appreciations – No Put-Downs
• Right to Pass – Participate
I encourage you to talk with your child about their tribes – the activities,
their tribe members, even their tribe name – and ask them what the Learning
Agreements mean to them. Mr. Hodgson’s Tuesday Tribe

Thank you to our local VFW Post 4797 for After reading the book “Stone Soup” Students tried their hand at
the their inspiring Veteran’s Day presentation making the real thing – stone and all. They then served it to the staff
and gift of American flags to Etna students. who exclaimed “Great soup!”

A big “Thank you!” to our Student Council and Dr. Hudson for organizing the SchoolMall.com fundraiser.
