Tommy Wayne Quaid Sr. Memorial Student Lounge

Come check out our improved student lounge, open during all library hours!

Through a generous donation from Tommy Wayne Quaid Jr. (ECU alumni 88) and a matching gift from his employer (HP Global Solutions) the library was able to purchase new window shades, rugs, and furniture for the second floor student lounge. Students and staff can now enjoy leather couches, chairs, and love seats as well as two tables. The room also includes snack and beverage machines, access to the wireless network, and beautiful plants (provided and cared for by ECUs Physical Plant). The lounge is named in honor of Mr. Quaids father, Tommy Wayne Quaid Sr. (ECU alumni 61). Tommy Sr. transferred to ECU from Murray State College, played basketball here at ECU, and graduated with Biology and Chemistry degrees. The lounge includes a beautiful plaque naming the lounge in honor of Quaid Sr. The library hosted a reception to honor the Quaid family and their contribution to ECU on October 26th.

A plaque of Dr. Linscheid is located inside the main entrance of the library across from the Circulation Desk. At first glance, one might think the plaque is not well cared for as Dr. Linscheids nose is a bit dirty. However, there is a reason. Legend has it that if you rub Adolphs nose while making a wish, your wish will come true. When the plaque was moved from the old library building, now Danley Hall, to the new facility in 1997, Dr. Linscheids nose had to be replaced as it had been completely rubbed off. Since St. Patricks Day is not for another few months, try a little luck of the Linscheid until then.

In 1949, ECU named the first library building after Dr. Adolph Linscheid, the third President of ECU. According to A History of East Central State College, 1909-1949, [Linscheid]seemed to be able to think clearer, remember more, to be more generous He was East Centrals lantern, and the flame was burning high. In fact, the light was...so bright that little could be seen, save the brilliant personality of A. Linscheid. Dr. Linscheid is the longest serving president of ECU, serving from 1920 until his death in 1949.
