Working in pairs/groups look at one of the music magazines provided and answer the general questions 1-4 below (REMEMBER TO KEEP YOUR OWN INDIVIDUAL NOTES AS YOU WILL ADD THESE TO YOUR OWN INDIVIDUAL BLOGS ) GENERAL QUESTIONS ABOUT MUSIC MAGAZINES (QUESTIONS 1-4)

1. What is a music magazine?


A music magazine is a magazine dedicated to music and music culture. Content focused on music genre but may also have some celebrity gossip, culture/lifestyle and fashion. Every music magazine has its own sub-genres and audiences.

2. What content (text/copy/writing/articles/stories) would you expect to find in a music magazine?


Such magazines typically include music news, interviews, photo shoots/images of the bands, essays, record reviews, concert reviews etc. It may also include competitions, gossip amongst some other things.

3. What images would you expect to find in a music magazine?


You would expect to find images of famous bands or singers associated with that particular type of music and who are very popular amongst the specific target audience.

4. Identify general characteristics/features that you would expect to find in all music magazines.

Masthead: at the top of the page so it stands out and people can clearly see the name of it when its on the shelf. Coverlines: highlight and outline the main topics within the magazine and how theyre all to do with music. A slogan at the top of the page: to attract the readers attention and sell the magazine well to their audience. A dominant picture of a musical star or stars; the whole magazine is centered around and is all to do with music. Medium close up shot: in center of the front cover. No text going over her face to maintain the focus and relevance on her. The name of the singer anchored so that the audience is clearly and fully aware of whom they are.
