Abstract
Time laps seismic or so-called 4D seismic is rather a new method which uses novel technology and is one
of major tools for reservoir management. Regarding to the benefits of 4D seismic on reservoir controlling
and monitoring in enhanced oil recovery process, accomplishment of this method is seen to be crucial and
cost-effective. But before beginning such project, a feasibility study must be done on each region and/or
field to examine whether the rock properties and fluid parameters let using seismic methods for reservoir
monitoring or not. With respect to using different available methods, a feasibility study for 4D seismic is
accomplished. In this study which is done on a part of sand formation of Ahwaz field, M2, using
Gassmanns equation, seismic velocity variations due to changing fluid saturation 230 and -10 m/s
changes in P-wave and S-wave is calculated. Then an average variation in 2-way time of p-wave is
calculated as 6 m/s. Consequently, in terms of acquiring seismic data with enough resolution, time lapse
seismic method could be accomplished on Ahwaz Oil Field.
