Calculating PEN numbers

10 th Grade -- Chemistry Standard 4: Atomic Structure The student will understand that the properties of matter and their interactions are a consequence of the structure and arrangement of the atoms. OVERVIEW: Students will calculate the number of protons, electrons and neutrons in an element and draw a Bohr model of the element LESSON OBJECTIVES: 1. I can use the atomic number and the mass number to calculate the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons for a given isotope of an element. 2. I can illustrate the structure of an atom using simple Bohr models. INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Go to www.jhsarnold.weebly.com 2. Scroll over JHS Chemistry 3. Scroll down to Standard 4: Atomic Structure 4. Click on Calculating PEN number Video 5. Watch video 6. Click on the Bohr Model Simulation tab under Standard 4: Atomic Structure 7. Click to Run 8. Click the GAME tab at the top left hand corner of simulation 9. Complete LEVEL 1 game and LEVEL 2 game 10. Post scores on Padlet under Bohr Model Simulation
