a) Explain the reason for each of the underlined procedures.
The one that says using distilled water is because it is always better to use distilled water before doing anything that way everything is clean and better, this can also provide better results. The next one is to keep the temperature at 37c for more accurate results, the next is that the solutions were left for 30 minutes, it is always better to leave the solutions for a longer period of time that way you can see clearly the results, and the last one is after 10 minutes shows 0.1 cm3 meaning that just for that period of time the results will be perfect no more no less. b) Why were buffer solutions used? To keep all the important gases inside so the experiment would be done correctly and to keep the temperature regulated. c) How could the investigator have tested for the presence of starch? He would have to look in each test tube and see if there is a change of color, like a orange or yellow color. d) I think that the optimum Ph will be the highest because is the one that reacted the most.
e) What do you understand by the term control? I think it mean to be sure about something, just to make sure if something happened or not. 0 100 200 300 400 500 600 700 800 0 2 4 6 8 10 A c h r o m a t i c

PH Achromatic time /s vs PH Achromatic time /s Power (Achromatic time /s) f) What would the investigator have found was occurring in each of the control tubes? I think the results would have been higher due to the concentration of the starch in the buffer tubes. g) Why do these tubes serve as controls for this investigation? To verify the experiment was done correctly and also to have other results to compare in the experiment. They also serve as controls because they are not too important in the whole experiment.
