Condensation experiment
We have learned about the water cycle and have done a fun experiment. We put cold water,
food coloring, and ice in a cup. In another cup we put room temperature water and food
coloring. Then we put the cups on saucers with salt on them. In 30 minutes we checked the
glasses. The cold cup had water droplets on it! Condensation had occurred. The salt made the
process go faster. The warm cup had nothing on it. That proved that it only happens on cold
things. That was quite a lesson we have learned!

Anti bullying
Today, Wednesday October 9
th
2013 we have anti bullying day in Al-Hamra Academy we dress
up in orange shirts but still wear our gym uniform. We talk about bullying and how it is
inappropriate behavior and how we can prevent bullying in our school. We made this small
project where every grade does this unity day chain where you have a small cut construction
paper and markers and you write something like DONT BE A BYSTANDER OR DONT
BULLY and the teacher chains them together and they will be hung up in the cafeteria .

Community service
We contacted Friendly House a shelter for homeless people and they told us that they
had 9 families with 15 children. The lady at the shelter told us that we should bring in
some towels. So Sr. Noor and Sr. Samira decided that the 4
th
and 5
th
grade students
should each bring a towel to school to donate. We also decided that we should bring in
some goodies for them so some people brought in candy and toys.I think it was a great
idea.

The hajj reenactment
On the 11
th
of October the whole elementary school of al Hamra academy did a hajj
reenactment. We the fifth grade was Muzdalifah. We had pebbles and the three jammarat in our
class room too. All the younger grades came in and threw pebbles at the jammarat. It was fun
but we had a lot of cleaning to do afterwards!

The hieroglyphs and stelea
We have made hieroglyphs in class. We took chunks of clay and made it into a flat little
rectangle. Then we carved in some pictures to represent each one of us. For the stelea we
recorded our classroom history by drawing little pictures to show what we did in that month or
what happened in that month in whatever months spot.

Industrial Center
For a fieldtrip the 4
th
through 8
th
graders went to the Industrial Center. The 4
th
and 5
th
graders
were split into 2 groups between the two grades.

On the Monday after Eid vacation each class had a party.

It was Thursday the October 25,2013 it was 8:45am we were 3 minutes late because of
Sr.Noor but when Sr.Noor opened her ipad Grace Lin was already on she is 41 but she looks
like a teen and the 1

question was is the ammonia incident real the answer was yes. she told
us that melodys real name is Alvina and later on she became her editor. There were 4 plants
for the science fair and they did an experiment with plants to see in which liquids they would
grow in the most. They used milk, orange juice, soda, and water. The soda plant grew the most,
but later on they found out that they didnt give the same amount of materials to water the
plants. We asked her what book she was most proud of and she said starry river of the sky
because all her books were written from girls perspective, and this was the first book she wrote
from a boys perspective. So thats all I have to say about skypeing with Grace Lin.
