Objectives: By the end of this lesson students will
1. Review simple sentences.
2. Define complex sentences, independent clause, dependent clause, and subordinating
conjunction.
3. Combine independent and dependent clauses using subordinating conjunctions to
create complex sentences.
Procedure (9 Events)
Gain Attention: Use the Simpsons as examples/analogies.
Inform Students of Objectives: Listed above
Prior Learning: Review simple sentences in the EdPuzzle video.
Present Content: Direct students to video link on the class website. Watch EdPuzzle video
lesson on complex sentences for homework.
Provide Learner Guidance: Watch EdPuzzle video. It pauses as students watch. Students take
notes on their WSQ worksheet as they watch.
Practice and Performance: Students complete guided practice, followed by independent practice
on their WSQ sheet.
Assess Performance: Check students work tomorrow during discussion time. Provide additional
practice on Edmodo app NoRedInk
Internalize Knowledge/Conclude: Go over answers in class on the second day. Review concepts
that students did not grasp.
Materials: Complex sentence video uploaded on EdPuzzle, Complex Sentence WSQ
worksheet.

Conclusion: Review important terms for complex sentences and the steps for creating the
