Week in Review: January 5 - 9

Forms that went home this week:
-Skating permission form (grey)
-Book order (Scholastic)
We got right back into the swing of things and resumed our daily journaling. The students are working on
adding more detail to their writing (e.g. adjectives), remembering to use capitals at the beginning of
their sentences and using appropriate punctuation at the end of a sentence (e.g. period, question mark,
exclamation mark). I love reading the stories they make up!
We are back into our math program. I showed the class another way to try subtraction that relies on
their knowledge of friendly numbers. Friendly numbers are two numbers that add up to 10. Try quizzing
your child on their knowledge of the friendly numbers
We have started a couple new P.E. units this week. Mondays and Tuesdays we will be in the gym doing
various gymnastics skills and circuits. Wednesdays we will be doing cross country skiing out in our
schools field. It was quite the process getting everyone fitted for our school set of boots, skis and
poles, but we had a great time once we actually got out there!
Next week we will start going to the Civic Centre for our skating unit. We will leave the school at 9:30
am each Thursday until February 5th then our final skate will be with the whole school on February 19 th.
Parent Volunteers are always welcome if you have a current Criminal Record Check! Having many hands to
help tie skates helps to get the kids on the ice quicker (and saves my hands from tying 23 pairs of
skates!).
