January News

Happy New Year! Here are some of our monthly highlights:

Science: We are very excited to begin our month-long unit study of dinosaurs! This
month we will be focusing on different types of dinosaurs, their diets, and where
they lived.

Math: Throughout January we will be working on place value up to one thousand.
The students will be counting hundreds, tens, and ones, reading and writing
numbers up to 1,000, and comparing numbers up to 1,000. We will continue to
review two-digit addition and subtraction with and without regrouping as a review
from December.

Reading and Writing: The students of 2A will be working hard on expository or
informational writing. They will pick a specific dinosaur to research, read about,
and write about this month. At the end of the month, the students will be able to
present a variety of information about their dinosaur.

Academy of Natural Sciences

To align with our dinosaur unit this month,
we have planned a trip to the Academy of
Natural Sciences at Drexel University.
Here, the second graders will get to put
their knowledge to the test as we explore
their very own Dinosaur Hall. By then, we
hope to be expert paleontologists!
