1.Bed
2.Headstock
3.Tailstock

THE BED
The Bed of lathe forms the base of the
machine. It supported on two legs at a
convenient height.
It carries the head stock & tail stock for
supporting the work & provides base for the
movement of the Carriage assembly.
Generally It is made from Cast Iron.
Its Slideways guide carriage & tailstock.

Headstock
The head stock houses the spindle &
the means for supporting & rotating
the Spindle.
It Holds lathe spindle and gears.

Tailstock
Tail stock is the counterpart of the
head stock fitted at the right hand
side of the bed.
It Can be clamped in any location.
Inside tapered to hold drill chuck.

Carriage
The Carriage assembly of the lathe
comprises of a number of components
which support, move & control the tool.
It Moves the cutting tool along bed
between tailstock and headstock.

Feed Mechanism
Feed mechanism is the combination of
different units through which motion of
headstock spindle is transmitted to
headstock spindle is transmitted to
carriage of lathe machine.

Alignment tests for lathe


To Ensure that a machine tool is
capable of producing good work,
certain tests are performed on it.
Before the various tests on any
machine tool are carried out, it is
very essential that it should be
installed in truly horizontal and
vertical planes.

Lathe tests
The spindle axis should be parallel to
bed.
Cross- slide is perpendicular to
spindle axis.
Accuracy of pitch of lead screw.
Miscellaneous Lathe test.
