Description of artifact and how the artifact meets the standard:
Preschool is assessed in the fall, winter, and spring of the school year using the GOLDs
assessment tool. GOLDs assesses the students abilities in: Social Emotional, Physical, Language,
Cognitive, Literacy, Mathematics, Science & Technology, Social Studies, and The Arts.
After collecting the data, I am able to see what students have mastered or made progress, and what
areas they are still having difficulty. From there, I can plan small group activities with students to
work on specific skills.
Reflection on artifact (what went right, what went wrong, how to make better):
The GOLDs assessment tool has been very beneficial for planning small group activities. It helps
me to see what skills each student has gained and what skills still need more instruction. It is a time
consuming assessment and I use an extra form for my own records of what letter knowledge the
students have and that also helps me when planning small groups. This information is also helpful
when I create the small groups and I match students together based on their needs.
