Description of Change: An improved stud is used on the engines that are listed above. The new stud
has an "elliptical fillet" underhead with "J" threads. The new stud has increased durability.
Adaptable To: The 304-9553 Stud is a direct replacement for the 233-3672 Stud and the 288-4109
Special Stud. The improved stud is adaptable back to the first production of the listed engines. The
change is effective at the factory with the engine serial numbers SDP21692-UP and NXS32162-UP.

The improved 304-9553 Stud


(1) Elliptical Fillet

Caterpillar recommends replacing all of the studs with the improved 304-9553 Stud if a 233-3672
Stud or a 288-4109 Special Stud fails. Refer to Illustration 1 and Illustration 2.
