amsGroup 1

Parallelogram
is a (non self-intersecting) quadrilateral with
two pairs of parallel sides. The opposite or
facing sides of a parallelogram are of equal
length and the opposite angles of a
parallelogram are of equal measure.
NOTE: SQUARE, RECTANGLE AND RHOMBUS
ARE PARALLELOGRAM

Properties of
Parallelogram
1. Opposite sides are parallel by

definition.
2. Opposite sides are congruent.
3. Opposite angles are congruent
4. Consecutive angles are
supplementary.
5. The diagonals bisect each other.

Theorems:

1. Each diagonal divides a parallelogram into two

congruent triangles.
2. Opposite sides of a parallelogram are congruent.
3. Opposite angles of a parallelogram are congruent.
4. Any two consecutive angles of a parallelogram are
supplementary.
5. The diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each
other.
6. The area of a parallelogram equals the product of
its base and height. (A = bh)

Postulates:

also called axiom

it is a statement that assumed to be true without formal
proof.
Through any two points, there is exactly one line
Through any three points not on the same line, there is
exactly one plane
A line contains at least two points
If two lines intersect, then they intersect at exactly one
pont
If two planes intersects, then their intersection is a line
