There's a lot here so the meeting will likely run over an hour. Don't let that scare
you away though. We're discussing issues important to our Chapter and your thoughts

Hello Everyone, I wanted to let everyone know that the board of directors of the museum approved a motion at the
last board meeting on February 17th stating that if the Oregon Trails Chapter joins the museum as a club member,
we will be able to hold our monthly business meetings at the museum facilities. I have attached a letter from Doug
Nelson, chairman of the museum board, to Gene documenting this. Also I discussed the issue of the $2 entrance
fee to Antique Powerland for events held on the ground with Doug Nelson and he said that the museum has an
agreement with Antique Powerland that if the event is held only on the vintage car & motorcycle grounds and
doesn’t involve any of the other grounds or facility, we will not have to pay the $2 fee. This means that if we hold
one of our events on the NWVCMM grounds, we will not have to pay that fee. Please realize though that if we use
the museum facilities for an event (excluding our monthly business meetings), there will likely be a fee involved.
The good news is that as a museum club member we will receive first priority on scheduling and the fee will be
lower than non-member groups.
Since these items have been addressed and resolved, I hope we can approve becoming a club member of the
museum at the March 13th meeting. Also I want to confirm that we have permission to meet at the gas station for
this meeting. Thanks, Tom Ruttan

The Northwest Vintage Car & Motorcycle Museum Presents:
Model and Pattern Making for Vintage Vehicles

When: Saturday, March 20th, 2010 10AM

Where: NWVCMM Vintage Gas Station @ Antique Powerland, Brooks, OR

Presenter: Gary Martin

Summary:
Model and pattern making are key elements of building and restoring vintage vehicles, whether it is a 1919 Indian
motorcycle or a 1930 Packard. Gary will bring patterns and castings for antique motorcycle, car, train, boat, and
airplane parts he has been involved in producing. He will talk about castings, and how a pattern is needed to
reproduce the desired part. Gary plans to spend as much time as needed to answer every ones questions about
this mysterious craft. IMPORTANT: Members are highly encouraged to bring actual parts, worn out or broken
castings or drawings of parts they need reproduced so he can help them directly.

A steam engine for Christmas at age 10 and his first Brooks Steam-Up soon thereafter has helped shaped Gary’s
life interest in all things mechanical and vintage. One of his earliest memories is riding in his grandfathers Packard
- which led to buying his first car - a 1941 Packard at age 20. After graduating from OSU, and teaching Industrial
Arts in the public schools for 2 years, he embarked on a career as a Pattern Maker that has spanned over 30
years, making parts for companies as diverse as Freightliner, York International, NorPak, Skookum and
Disneyland. He has taught Adult Ed classes through Portland Community College for almost 10 years in
Patternmaking; probably the only one in the country doing so. Gary’s company, Martin Model and Pattern, is
dedicated to serving the home machinist and is well established as a producer of some of the finest Model Engine
casting kits as well as being the largest supplier of Model Engine flywheels in the world. The company is
dedicated to helping keep old things running and educating citizens about the importance of American business so
we can continue to be able to manufacture anything we need of quality in the USA.
If you have an interest in how parts and machinery are made, please join us.
