Dear Mr. Smith:
On behalf of the shipping department, I sincerely apologize about letting this company down and
disappointing our customers.
However, it is important that I let you know the reasons behind the shipping delay. The reasons
for the delay are:

A number of vital employees became sick and were out for two-and-a-half weeks, leaving
us severely understaffed.
The temporary employees that were hired were unable to meet our standards
immediately.
I forgot about the delayed shipping orders.

Just recently, the regular employees returned to work. To solve the shipping problems, I have
decided to keep both the temporary and full-time employees so that we are able to ship our
products out without further delays. Furthermore, I think it would be a good idea to implement
two shifts a day and a night shift to further make up for the lost time.
To conclude, I would like to apologize as well as ensure you that this will not happen again. I
understand my role in this problem and will make every attempt to improve for the future.
