Highlights of the Week: April 19 – 23, 2010

Reading: The students worked hard to complete the MCA Reading test.

Math: The students have been reviewing math topics and sample test questions in
preparation for the MCA Math test. The students will take the Minnesota
Comprehensive Assessment Test in Math on Tuesday, April 27 and on Wednesday, April
28. There will be two test sessions each day: 9:00 – 10:20 and 1:15 – 2:35. Please make
sure your child is well rested and has two # 2 pencils.

Science: The students have studied the forms of energy. Students made an energy
wheel to demonstrate the concepts of stored energy and energy of motion.

The students created a poster in observance of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. I
was part of the first Earth Day in 1970 when I was in eighth grade in Grand Rapids. We
observed the day by attending mini classes about the environment. Some classes
planted pine trees on the old iron ore mine tailings north of Grand Rapids, which have
grown into forests today.

Social: Elysia Larson visited last week to give a presentation on living in the Ukraine.
Thank you to Elysia and Gretchen for sharing their experiences and providing treats.

Cindy McDougall, in conjunction with The Center for the Arts, instructed
students on how to create an abstract print which will be made into a card and displayed
at the Center.
