Disperse dyes (http://textilelearner.blogspot.com/2012/01/printing-on-polyester-f abric-with.html) are
insoluble in water and f orm aqueous dispersion in water. At f irst these dye molecules are f ormed as large particles and they are made smaller particles by grinding. But as they are water insoluble, they will give uneven dyeing if they are directly used in dye bath. So to ensure unif orm and trouble f ree dyeing the dye should be present in dye bath in an unif orm and very f ine f orm and should give an stable dispersion. T his is the reason f or which a special chemical is used in dye bath named dispersing agent. T hey should be ef f ective under dyeing conditions, stable to hard water, high temperature and other dyeing assistants. For example, soap powder, Turkey Red oil, alkali sulphates, alkyl aryl sulphonates etc. are some surf ace active agents which are recommended as dispersing agents in disperse dyeing. Functions of Dispersing Agent It It It It It It
assists in the process of particle size reduction of dye.
enables the dye to be f ormed in powder f orm. f acilitates the recon version of the powder into a dispersion which is required f or dyeing. maintains the dispersion in a f ine f orm in the dye bath through out the process. increases the solubility of disperse dyes in water. af f ects on the arte of dyeing.
