here in those 10 seconds. Everyone put your hands on
s
your hips to make sure you have enough room to
participate in our warm up. Alright, today youre going to
be my mirror. So if I do this, *raise right arm*, you would
raise your left arm, exactly as if I was looking at a mirror.
Pay attention to my movements and well try this for a
minute! *mime walking, squinting up at the sun, putting
on sunscreen, put on a lifejacket, jumping into water with
nose plugged, and swimming.

Set Induction: Most of you noticed that I was almost

acting out a day at the beach. Someone tell me
something you do at the beach to be safe. Very true!
Today we will be talking about sun safety, something
very important at the beach.
Learnable Piece: Sun safety is actually important
whenever we are outside in the sun. Certain parts of
light from the sun can be harmful for our bodies so we
have to protect them. Someone raise their hand and tell
me how we protect our bodies in the sun. Great!

Notes:

Presentation of New Material/Directions: Today well

be working with some of the sun safety ideas you
mentioned. Im going to count you off in teams of five.
Each team will line up by their beach-goer (show person
cut out). Your job is to take turns running down to the
end of the gym, picking a safety item out of your hula
hoop, and bring it back to dress your person. Whoever
has their person ready for the beach first is the winning
team. While youre playing make sure to watch where
youre going, you wouldnt want to run into anyone else
or to run past your hula hoop! You can also be friendly
teammates, which we have talked about before in ways
like cheering or clapping.
Transition: Now well count off from 1 to 5, when you
get your number hold it up in the air and say it aloud.
*number the group 1-5*. Dismiss teams one at a time to
line up by their *cut out*.
Activity: When I say go you may begin, determine who
will go first and if anyone needs to go twice. On your
marks, get set, go! *specific positive encouragement
during participation* Congratulate the winning team and
all participants.
Possible Modifications:
Simplifications: shorten the size of the running space;
only put out half of the safety pictures.
Extensions: Make the teams dress and undress the cut
out (as if going to the beach and going home); increase
the running distance
Too boring: increase running distance; use a different
locomotor skill such as skipping or galloping;
Lesson Review: You can all remain seated, if you cant
see, move so you can help talk about what we had
learned today. So we talked about being safe in the sun,
when is this important? Tell me some ways that you can
be sun safe at home. Great job listening and thank you
for sharing those answers.
