Class Make-up:
This second grade class consists of 19 students. There is 1
learning disabled (LD), 1 gifted (G), and 1 English Language
Learner (ELL).

Procedures:
1. Teacher will play Fiction vs. Nonfiction video for students.
(3:35 minutes)
2. Teacher will lead discussion on the different characteristics of
fiction and nonfiction pieces of literature, examples of each
will be shown.
3. Students will complete Fiction vs. Nonfiction Book Title Sort.

Grouping Structures:
Whole groups for the video and discussion. Individual setting for
Book Title Sort WS.

Adaptations:
For the LD and ELL students, worksheets will also be passed out
that identify characteristics of fiction and nonfiction books.
These students may refer to their sheets when participating in
group discussion. For the G student, a worksheet will be handed
out that will allow to list characteristics of fiction and nonfiction
books in a Venn diagram format.
