CONlinoatioll of the Remarks on the Ti ouang

a. In the palace of Peking, and elfewhere, there

are great halls, its which honours are paid to the
memory of the &reamed emperors of the reigning
dynally of the Mantrireou. The firft and fecond em-
peror reigned in Eall Tartary. The emperor Chun
&hi began to reign in China. If we reckon the pre.
knt emperor in the number, there are fix emperors
Montanan. Father Couplet, and others, are mif-
taken in reckoning one more. This error was or-
ealioned by the years of the reign of To bong, the
fecond enaperor, having had two names. Father
Couplet, and others, took thc two names of the
years of thc reign for the name or title of the two
emperOR.
3. In the Ti awang slat is honoured the memory
of fome illuftrious perfont in the different dynalties.
The fame is done in the hall, where honour is paid
to the memory of the deceafed emperors Mooch,. :
and there are there tablets for fo many illuftriour per-
fons among thole emperors.
fn the Tt twang wig. are placed none of the
emperors of the dynally Hin before Chrift, nor any
of thofc between the dynalties Tang and Ilan, nor
of thofe of the five fmall dynallies after that of
Tang. &fides, in each dynafly there are forne em-
perors, whole tablets are not placed in the Ti suang
win. The reigning dynally has not thought it
duty to pay honours to thofe emperors, but con-
fidered them as unworthy the pompous title of Tin
tre, or Sons of Heaven.
