ORAL REPORT GRADING CITERIA

Purpose: The goal of the oral reports is for students to summarize the assigned
topic in a brief, professional oral report format.

Oral Report Grading Criteria (100 points)

1. Topic (20 points): The information about the assigned topic is

summarized; students appear to understand the topic and can answer
questions about it.

2. Organization (20 points): The oral report contains an introduction, a

summary of the main ideas, and a conclusion. The audience easily follows
the presentation and understands the main ideas covered. The students
use transition phrases between the introduction, main ideas, and
conclusion.

3. Delivery (20 points): Presenter makes effective eye contact with the
audience. The delivery properly combines projection of voice, tone, pace,
and gestures. Information is delivered in a smooth manner indicating that
the topic is understood and a practice in oral reporting is evidenced.

4. PowerPoint (20 points): Included in every slide is some kind of picture to

capture the audience’s attention but related to the information being
reported. The words should be summary in nature (unless the quote is
included) and not include sentences and large sections of the written
report.

5. Overall Effectiveness (20 points): The speaker shows enthusiasm for the
topic, maintain audience attention, and capture the audience’s attention.
