CURRICULUM NIGHT
We would like thank those of you
who attended Curriculum Night
on Wednesday. We were happy
to see and meet many 5th grade
parents and guardians! Parents
who did not attend should have
received materials we went over
from their child on Thursday.
 ROOM 115 – CLASS NEWS
WHAT’S GOING ON THIS WEEK?
This week we started Unit 1 in math.
This unit focuses on multiplication and division
word problems. We worked on problems with
combinations and used tree diagrams to figure
out and display the solutions. We also
discussed comparison problems and wrote
our own word problems using multiplication
and division.
We continued working with our IB
Planner, titled The Human Machine. This week
we finished our inquiry on the digestive
system, and began investigating cells. We
built models demonstrating peristalsis, which
is how our food moves down into our
stomach. And, we built edible models of cells.
Who knew science could be yummy?? Next
week, we will focus our inquiry on our heart
and lungs.
In spelling we focused on words with
the long a sound. Please remember that all of
our spelling work is done at school, but we
encourage students to study and practice at
home. A great website for practice and games
with our spelling words is
www.spellingcity.com.
We had our first meeting with our 1st
grade buddies, the kids were terrific role
models and mentors. Smiles all around. 
Next week we will wrap up our MAP
testing for the fall.
SCHOOL FUNDRAISER
The Matoska International PTO
announces the Innisbrook fall fundraiser
which starts on Monday, September
20th with orders accepted until Friday,
October 1st. All money earned directly
benefits our students and school and is
used to fund classroom support, school
events and enrichment programs.
Please check your child's backpack for
your sales packet on Monday,
September 20th. If you have any
