SINGLE VEHICLE SERIOUS INJURY CRASH

Grand Rapids Police are investigating a serious injury single vehicle crash the occurred at
Leonard St and Penn Ave NE on Saturday October 2, 2010 at approximately 0330 hrs.
A 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora was traveling west on Leonard St at a high rate of speed when it hit
a section of roadway under repair at Penn Ave. The driver lost control of the vehicle causing it
to leave the roadway and strike a tree causing it to spin around.

The vehicle had 4 occupants, the two rear seat passengers identified as Sylena Feliciano,
22yrs old from Grand Rapids, and Jessica Zuniga, 21yrs old from Grand Rapids both received
critical injuries and are being treated at Butterworth Hospital. One of the rear passengers was
ejected as the vehicle spun after hitting the tree and other was pinned inside the vehicle and
was extricated by the Grand Rapids Fire Department.

The front seat passenger, Theotis Staten, 24 yrs old from Grand Rapids was not injured.
The driver, a 22 yr old Grand Rapids man was treated at Butterworth Hospital for non-life
threatening injuries.

Excessive speed appears to be a factor in this crash and alcohol use is being evaluated. The
crash remains under investigation by the Special Services Unit of the Grand Rapids Police
