Management
 Waste management is the collection, transport, processing,
recycling or disposal, and monitoring of waste materials. The
term usually relates to materials produced by human activity,
and is generally undertaken to reduce their effect on health,
the environment or aesthetics.

 The controlling, handling and disposal of all solid waste. One

goal of solid waste management is to reduce waste to the least
amount possible.

 Refers to the operations, maintenance and the recycling of

materials disposed of in landfills.
ABSTRACT
 Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSWM) is a challenging problem
for developing countries.

 Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) generation in Chennai, the fourth largest

Metropolitan city in India.

 The highest per capita solid waste generation rate in India is in Chennai (0.6 kg/d).

 The collected wastes are disposed at open dump sites located at a distance
of 15 km from the city.

 Total cost for street sweeping, collection and transportation per Metric ton
of waste by Corporation of Chennai (CoC) and Onyx is approximately
USD 33 and 25, respectively .
OBJECTIVES

• To control the solid waste Management

• Improving Environmental Protection

NEED FOR STUDY
 Due to rapid urbanization and substantial economic
development in recent decades, the generation of
excessive amounts of solid waste (SW) worldwide
has become one of the most serious problems, which
needs to be addressed urgently for environmental
protection.

 Eventually strategic measures need to be undertaken

not only with SW, which cannot be recycled and is of
no further use.
